I've been using Winstep since version 2.x. Just had the latest installed. Its now giving me an Error: Access Violation when I select Programs on the Winstep menu I created. Its the same menu I've been using with no issues on 2.x.

The current Access Violation problem sometimes go away, sometimes it comes back and stays stubborn.

I still think its a configuration issue. So the question is, what are the likely causes of such Access Violation. What other applications will give it conflict?

Appreciate the help.

Technically speaking, an Access Violation occurs when an application tries to read memory that doesn't belong to it (or has been released back to the OS in the mean time).

Since this only happens when you open your Program's menu, something in it is likelly the culprit. My guess is that something, somewhere, is corrupt (a bad shortcut or icon file, for instance).

But first things first: since you were previously using NextSTART v2.x, what do you get on the Properties Editor dialog when you right click on the 'Programs' menu entry in your main menu and select 'Properties' from the context menu? Does it say 'Show Special Folder' in the pull up menu of the Command section?

I would suggest that you try to isolate the problem by trial and error, e.g.; create a new blank NextSTART menu and start dragging stuff from the real Windows Programs menu (press the WIN key to pop up the Windows Start Menu), one by one, until you hit the Access Violation error. Once the culprit has been isolated, it's up to me to find out WHY that particular item is causing the error.
