Ok, so I noticed that it says the app works for win8. Well, I have my Win8 Pro x64 installed and everything looks to be working fine with Dock except for any of the themes that have the glass effect/clear background for the images are showing up white for the clear background. Is their anyway to fix this or is it a bug that will have to be fixed for win8 latter on?

Also, in case anyone is wondering the glass effect code has been removed from win8.

You answered your own question.

I still can't believe Microsoft removed an API call that was widely used. It's the first time they did this - someone at MS must be losing their marbles.

all at microsour have lost their marbles if they think peeps will really buy that piece of BLEEP called win 8. you know they are worried about sales when they will be opening up the oem versions to home system builders. jorge i think you had better look at porting to linux and osx.

Ok, that is what i figured, just was not sure if it used its own glass effect code like some of my apps I have or its used windows code.

Any planes on adding it own glass code?

Thanks

all tht is going to happen is within 6 months microsour is going to cry foul, cause 3rd party software makers are going to create apps that replace what microsour removed. they will ride on top of microsours code rather than change it.

Will you be able to work around on this? Disabling the glass effect in Nexus somewhat works, at least it doesn't look as ugly as in the first posts' screenshot.

Unfortunately, no, the blur shader code was removed by Microsoft and is not something trivial to replicate.

What Nexus did (does for Vista/7) was scan the background bitmaps for semi-transparent regions and then pass to Windows, via the proper API, what these regions were. Windows itself would then automatically apply the blur from then on.

The only thing I can do is disable the blur *option* when the application detects it is running under Windows 8.

This is a MAJOR step backwards. I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER, seen Microsoft remove functionality from Windows like this before. They even used to keep deprecated API calls nobody used anymore for the sake of backwards compatibility... now they are doing this.

I have to confess I am worried about the future, Microsoft seems intent on turning Windows into a closed platform. They cannot do this without changing the whole OS, which is what they are attempting to do by forcing people into Metro/Windows RT.

I expect/hope Windows 8 will be a MAJOR fiasco, but, even if that prediction comes true, I fear the damage will be done and Microsoft ends up seriously fragmenting the market, causing many developers (who no longer trust Microsoft) and users alike to divert to other Operating Systems.

maybe not anywhere near this scale, but microsour has since the advent if xp has been removing features that the enduser really liked and used on a regular basis. in vista and 7 they tried to hide this fact by giving us other features, but most people noticed the missing features none the less. all microsour did this time was be brazen about it, and out and out say fluck what you want as a enduser.
