Hello.

I recently installed Nexus on a test machine (Windows 7 32 bit) to play with and decide whether or not I wanted to install it on my main machine. While experimenting, I discovered the Safely Remove Hardware command and thought it was pretty cool. I decided to go ahead and install the program on the main machine, which is Windows 7 64 bit. On this machine, however, I cannot find the option for the Safely Remove command.

Can anyone tell me why it is not there?

Thanks,

Paul

Use following steps to show 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon on the task bar (system tray):
1. Connect a device (e.g. USB-stick) to the USB port of your PC.
2. In Windows Explorer goto Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons
3. Search for 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' (usually under Windows Explorer). Note that entry will only appear if you followed step 1 (if you did not, it will not be in the list, which may be the reason that you cannot find it). Remember the icon in front of it, if you want to change it.
4. Set behavior to 'Show icon and notifications' and press OK.

Use following steps to change the icon:
5. In Winstep Preferences goto tab 'Tray'.
6. Press button ' Customize Tray Icons'.
7. Search in the list for the tray icon from step 3.
8. Click on this line and then on button 'Change Icon'.
9. Select icon of your choice and click few times on OK (to close the all windows you opened).

I already have 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' set to 'Show icon and notifications' and it still does not appear as an option in the Internal Commands. I configured it via the system tray option "Customize..."

It is not an option in the Internal Commands (that's normal, same here).

The icon should appear automatically in the taskbar, when you connect an USB device.

Maybe you want the icon to appear on the dock. In that case, in Workshelf Preferences, goto tab Docks & Shelves, select the dock (click on it) and check with Locate Position button if it is the right one. Then click Properties button and under System Tray check the box Show system tray in this dock.

That internal command relies on native Windows functionality, and, unfortunately, due to 32 bit vs. 64 bit incompatibilities (Microsoft's own 32 bit to 64 bit automatic registry re-direction), it does not work properly under 64 bit versions of Windows. It is therefore NOT available on 64 bit versions of Windows.

I wondered if that wasn't the problem, since the main difference between the two systems was 32 bit vs 64 bit.

Thank you.
