Hi!

I have 2 ideas for cool WS modules....

1: A virtual desktop manager (don't know how hard this would be to code) and

2: a port (clone) of Wanda the fish gnome applet (or k-wanda from Kde - http://kwanda.sourceforge.net/).

Thanks for Winstep, love it.

Regarding the VDM, you will have to wait a while for this, but...

... you got us all excited with the Wanda the fish idea, so I think you are in luck. Should be a quick and easy module to add. Any special requests regarding Wanda?

P.S. For those not in the known, Wanda the Fish must be the most useless module ever conceived. It just sits there, swimming idlessly, and gives you a short 'fortune cookie' line whenever you click on it. Good to make you relax and think - and a nice addition for all the Zen lovers.

Skinners could provide their own fish, say... a multipanel png image or the like. And it should be easy to add your own sayings. You could even have multiple "fortune files" which you could select based on your mood.

Wanda was the reason I swiched my pc at home to linux, BTW. :D

Good idea. We are also going to give Wanda optional access to an online database with more than 50,000 'fortune cookies'. :D

If you are doing requests how about giving the clock module a function where we could set an alarm, a small reminder flashes up on the screen with a written message at a preset time. Plus a calander for daily reminders and appointments with the same message flashing feature as the clock. :D

Sonic, 'if we are doing requests'? Since when did we stop?

I agree with your idea of what the clock module should do - in fact, somewhere buried in the WorkShelf code is an 'Alarm Settings' window which was never finished at the time (can't remember why now). And I also agree that a calendar module would be nice.

The only problem right now is that we have to stop adding more features for this release at some point, otherwise the version will never see the light of day as an official build... But don't worry, our plans include adding a lot of new functionality to the existing modules - plus a few other surprises.

Just to let you know that Wanda is already swiming - and spewing out quotes and fortune cookies - on the desktop of yours trully. Tooltips have also been greatly enhanced: they now pop up in balloon format and give detailed information about shelf items (the same detailed info you get when you hover the mouse pointer over a file in Explorer).

Wanda is cute (if sorta useless), and the quote bubbles are awesome. ;-)

Not sure HOW I'd go about skinning Wanda, though, at least not as a fish.

Short of providing your own fish animation (and, at this point, without support for GDI+ in WorkShelf, it would have to be done using icons), I think the most you can do is give it a 'container' (like an aquarium).

The non-advanced skinned Wanda simply floats on the desktop free-form, as you've already seen.
