G'day all,

I have been using and loving Winstep Extreme for over a year now without issue, however I now have a minor question that I hope someone here can help with.

My system currently has several different physical hard drives. One SSD and two large mechanical drives. I use the SSD as my main OS drive (C:) obviously, but to conserve space on it (it's only 256GB) I only install applications on it that are either very small, or will benefit from the increased access times.

When I installed Winstep I decided that it would probably not benefit from the faster access times so I installed it to one of my mechanical drives. Of course now I realise that this decision is why my windows takes so long to start.

I'd like to move my Winstep to the SSD (D: -> C:) but I'd prefer not to have reinstall and reconfigure it because it's taken me a while to get it "just right" and I'm not sure I can remember all the little tweaks I configured for it.

Can anyone tell me a relatively simple method of moving Winstep?

If not I'll just copy the entire Winstep folder structures from D: to C: and put links pointing to C: in place of the old (D:) Winstep folders, but I'm not sure this is the best solution.

Thanks for your help,

There's a backup/restore function within Winstep.

Now I can't tell you if it will work if you uninstall then reinstall on a different drive, especially regargind icons paths or such things.

At worst, I think you can try, and if it fails, reinstall back as it was, and then try the symbolic lnks you were thinking about.

Regards.

It'll work.

On a different note... I've got a 120GB Samsung 840 Pro and half of it is empty... and I've got everything in it, including Visual Studio and MatLab. What the hell are you installing (and it's **only** 256GB)???

Thanks for the help. I've got it all working now.

As for what I have installed, allowing for the OS which becomes more bloated the longer its on (thanks MS) I have mostly my games including Skyrim and all its associated mods (and I've modded the hell out of it) so that is what is taking up most of the space.
