Strange thing today : when I tried to use one of my docks, the registration window popped up instead, saying that I was using this shareware for 1 day.

Re-opened my key and registered again, it seems to be fine now, but how is it even possible (it was registered on the 24th of february 2015) ?

12 days and absolutely no answer, for a paid licence problem.

Needless to say, I'm not especially amazed by the amount of support we get for having bought this software.

Don't count on me to renew my subscription, and count on me to NOT recommend this product to anyone.

And while I'm here, another annoying problem : from time to time, I'm losing focus from my current window (typical exemple : I could be typing this very message, and suddenly, I would typing for nothing because Winstep stole the focus for "no" reason). This does not happen very often, luckily, and I did not find any reason why it does this (the docks are not showing up, for example).

Yeah, I'm getting the sense that this is essentially an abandoned product. I've read a couple of other threads from people who have been trying to get replacement licenses (for new computers) and have struggled extensively to succeed. I've evaluating Winstep now, but probably am just going to uninstall it after the month is up. I *really* like the program!! but also *really* don't want to get stuck with a program that is both node-locked and unsupported...

Regarding the registration window, probably a one time glitch (something failed when performing an internal self-check?). If it happens again, just click the Register button, there should be no need to apply the key file again since it will already be in place.

As for the focus problem, perhaps your mouse pointer bumped a screen edge by accident? Could have been the lower edge which triggers the Xtreme/NextSTART taskbar forward (but you won't notice it if nothing is covering it at the time).

If it happens again, check the position of the mouse pointer.

Derelict, Winstep software is not node-locked. And support has been lacking, true, but the apps are not un-supported.

Okay, but what *is* the licensing mechanism?? You responded to many other messages today, but ignored my question, when I'm trying to decide whether to purchase this before time runs out...

Many people seem to be here, asking for new licenses because they changed machines... if it runs on one machine, but not on another, I consider that node-locked (the machine is the node). Can I use it on multiple machines (a desktop and a laptop)?? I don't see an answer to this...

Later note...
Okay, in your response to Bizkit, you replied "Just make sure you have a backup of the license key somewhere and apply that on your new/rebuilt computer.", which suggests that maybe I don't have to worry about this so much.

Nonetheless, I would feel more reassured by seeing a license document, which defines exactly how I can use it, and what restrictions exist on its use... that document is usually easily findable in a software package, but I don't seem to be able to find it!! Can someone give me a pointer??

There is no such document, but you can hear it straight from the horse's mouth:

1. Winstep license keys are NOT hardware locked. I personally hate that with a passion.

2. You can use the same key on multiple computers provided you are the only one using them and you don't go overboard with it - otherwise you would be better off buying the Home Network license (for the price of less than two licenses you have written consent to use the same key on up to 5 different computers).
