Hi,
is it possible to have text and no icons inside a doc OR have icons with text which are always visible ?

No. That would not be a dock, it would be a menu, no?

As for icons with text, you have the Shelf (tabbed dock) in Nexus Ultimate.

... Do we have a menu and/or menu we could attach icons on the text side ? :)

We are now using your product from 2 days and we have built a vertical list of EXECEL and WORD files to open each morning. Not having a text forces us to move the cursor over the icons inside the dock and let the text appear. Otherwyse they are just a bunch of identical icons.

I'll take a look at it to discover if we could place it vertically.

Hi,
I reopen this topic. Has been there any news ? We desperatly need icons with text which are always visible.
If we use an "mail envelope" as icon to send an email and we configure one for each of the destination address, we would never know which destination we are sending too.
Also, eny reuse of a particular image would create a lot of confusion.
Last but not least, vertical docks with only text are very useful when you have a bunch of function to start.

Your company is waiting for you.

Apologies, no idea now why I failed to reply to your previous message back in 2015.

A dock is not the ideal tool to hold documents with identical icons, precisely because it was never meant to support text. A dock is by definition a quick application launcher: different applications have different icons that make them easy to identify.

Now, the Shelf, on the other hand, already supports text labels beneath icons. You can even have tabs pointing at actual folders in your hard drive. It can be collapsed so only the tabs are visible, or left open all the time. It can be made to display a single row of icons, or more than that, as long as it fits on the screen.

The Shelf currently does have a big limitation though: it only exists horizontally, and you can only have one Shelf (although that one Shelf can have multiple multi-purpose tabs).

For what you want perhaps the NextSTART menus in Winstep Xtreme would be better. NextSTART allows you to create and customize as many menus as you want, and this menus can be always open on the screen (optionally you can roll them up so only the menu titlebar is visible) or they can be invoked only when necessary by bumping screen edges/corners when necessary (or even by clicking hotspot buttons placed on your desktop).

Perhaps you should look at Winstep Xtreme?

Hi Jorge,
please consider this simple scenario: you are planning to create a dock to open the Microsoft Outlook "new message window". It should have the To field and/or the subject field compiled. Now you choose to use a stylized face icon to rapresent this action. In your company you have xxx collegues and you can't ask a photo of each one. So the best ways is to use that stylized face and a text below it.
The same happen if you whish to open documents/reports and so on. You always use generic icons you complete with text.

Please consider adding an aptional text below icons as vertical docks are really useful but in this specific scenario limit us the coomprension of the content of the action we are performing.

Giuseppe Chillemi

PS: Note, we have already purchase the maximum version of winstep extreme in 2015 but we are still not using it because of this limitation.

Reopening the thread after 4 years:

Have been added the option to have text under Toolbar Icons ? Still needed a lot here.

Thanks

No. A dock will NEVER have text below the icons.

This said, unlike back in 2016, Nexus Ultimate and Winstep Xtreme now support multiple shelves (which can now be vertically oriented as well) and also something called 'Drawers'. You might want to have a look at this last option since it allows you to mix text with icons.

I'll give a try to the new version. Prepare for a "text under icons" request bombing if it does not satify our needs ! O:-)
(Otherwise we will upgrade)

Have a look at the new Grid Stacks too... :)

Folders and Grid Stacks solved all our needs.

I have only 1 problem and a request:

1) The main shelf does not attach to the top of the screen even if configure it.

2) If I change name or move an item, the shelf should ask me the to select the new position or the file or ask me to autoseach for it based on filename. In the latter case, if multiple of the same filename have been found, ask the correct one (path info should be displayed)

Well thank goodness for that! :) A dock with text below the icons would be something of an oxymoron (like Microsoft Works? ;) ) after all...
