Referring to the Next Style file browser...absolutely. It should be just like the one that came with Nexus :P Don't forget the side-scrolling / retractable shelf / somehow expandable shelf.

I would love to see a file browser... I used to use Winbrowser, but I think the company is defunct now, and I cannot find my install file...

Post subject:  Alarm feature

I would love to see a custom alarm feature added to the winstep clock. Is this possible?

Yes. Been on the works for AGES but never actually implemented.

Sure, skin explorer to match the desktop, and maybe add some sound themes like thethemedoctor did for win98.

Virtual window manager that can integrate into WS, NS or Nexus. Or a way to say integrate a VM like altdesk.

A way to drag and drop from an NS menu to a Nexus dock or WS shelf.

When a Nexus dock is created from a WS shelf, offer an integration options so changes to one are replicated to the other

Just press SHIFT (move) or CTRL (copy) when dragging from a NextSTART menu.

Uptime monitor? I know others have mentioned it's built in, but I can't find it in any of the internal commands. Has it been removed? Or is it another name?

BTW, I've written a little standalone uptime manager that I've been using since win98 days. It's tiny, sits in the taskbar, and keeps not only a running total, but also graphical display of the entire time the system has been running (while my little app is running, of course!).

it normally runs in the system tray, but there are options to leave it on the desktop (no transparency code included, I built it with Delphi 3.0) But I'd be more than happy to port it or offer it to see if it's useful/practical... No strings attached!

Only problem is, it currently uses the registry (only HKLM, so permissions shouldn't be a problem). I've attached a little screenshot of what the reporting tool currently looks like...

Image

The way it works is, each reboot it autoruns and prompts you for a tag or description. Then it stores that, and every 10 minutes (configurable) it checks to see if the current uptime is consistent, and updates the counter if so, or assumes the system has been rebooted and finalises the last count and initiates a new one.

It's real simple and a bit clunky (no browse for where to save the report image, etc), but it's absolutely rock solid and idiot-proof. Well, this idiot anyway.

Hmmm, that's because it's actually a 'System Uptime' item type on a NextSTART menu.

Nice uptime manager you've got there, btw. :D

Ah, thank you for that info!

That's actually a really cool tool, and it's built in! Excellent. You definitely don't need my top-heavy tracker code at all.

  • Nexus needs to be faster. Animations are very slow and eat too many CPU cycles. For speed comparisons check out Rocket Dock. Nexus flat out chugs on my 1.7ghz Pentium M (Santa Rosa) laptop with 2 gb of RAM and a 128mb ATI X700 Video card. Running XP Pro SP2
