Hi Jorge,

Long time user here. I have some... strange requests for you today.

A bit of backstory:

I am currently building a "wing" rainmeter theme that replaces the windows taskbar and allows for a dock.

Image

There have been a lot of changes since this screenshot though.

I am using winstep for the system tray up top-right as well.

The theme is using autohotkey for some automagic - namely a light-up downloads icon if an in-progress download is detected, the bar background is now 100% transparent unless a window is maximized, then it blacks out the background, few other cool goodies.

I would like to use the autohotkey Send_WM_COPYDATA function to send commands to winstep nexus to perform some actions to further automate the integration of the two.

Here is a few things I would like:

  • - A command to hue/colorize all icons in the dock (for the systray) to match the theme accent color.
  • - A winstep setting to set a custom windowtitle for a dock (for autohotkey purposes)
  • - A command to move an aligned dock at a pixel position rather than a percentage
  • - An option for 'grow-direction' of the dock, e.g. for when its on the left side or right side of the screen, which way to grow the icons (or automatic based on which half it is on)
  • - Perhaps separate X/Y sizing for icons instead of 1:1 aspect ratio?

I know it's a big crazy list but hopefully you will consider some (or all!)
of the above!

Hi Jorge,

Have you ever thought about some stickeies/note kind of functionality?

i know there are many other programs for that and dont know how work intensive it would be but i think winstep could have a unique approach/functionality to stickies:
Icon/hotspot/module based notes, notes that would roll up into an icon or a doc object, an the text itself would be saved as a txt or rtf file?

just to put a bug in your ear

This has probably been asked for before, but tonight, search is not my friend. It would be really nice if there were a way to move multiple workshelf modules at the same time. Since we can't have them "click" together at this point in time.

Although I did think of a way to have them be able to click together and still allow the user to reorder them. What if you assigned one point on each of the 4 "sides" of each module as the click point? Then, no matter what modules were in use they would click to the same spot on any given module.

Workflow enhancement:

The docks have the ability to have an icon that launches something to also be the placeholder for a subdock.
I use this on a regular base, for example: I have 5 web browsers on my sistem, 1 that I use on a regular base (with more than 100 tabs open in it) and the others that I use for other purposes when you want a fast browser and do not need 100 tabs open ( like searching something quick, banking, etc). My main broser shortcut icon is also the placeholder for the subdock containing the other browsers. I have a similar setup for media players and for design apps.

My request: as it is right now, to open such a subdock you have to hunt the little right arrow and wait, same if you want to drop something on the subdock. Would it be feasible to add an modifier key (like shift, ctrl, etc) that when held down, would open the said subdock when you mouse over the placeholder icon ( same as for "normal" subdocks)? That would make things much faster. A toggle in the interface for that would make easy to take this setting on/off as desired.

Workflow enhancement, second thought.

In the present, if you drag a png file over a shortcut on any dock, you can replace the default icon.
Here is my thought: if you want to actualy open or copy that file by drag and drop, you have to press an modifier key (shift, alt, ctrl). But usualy this is what you whant to do. How often do you change the shortcuts icons? After the initial setup, not verry often. I think it would be more practical to be the other way around, meaning that the normal drag and drop action should be open/copy, and if you want to change de shortcut icon, then you could do that by pressing alt modifier key.

Didn't run through all of the suggestions, so someone may already have asked for this...

A digital clock theme that will not have date on it, only time.

With today resolutions I find the digital clock too small to be of use as it is now, removing the date would increase the time size to actually make it more useful.

This would not be a problem if 3rd party modules could be used with Nexus, since a 3rd party module would easily be able to do this, but I think it is easier to add a theme to the clock than add 3rd party module support.

I guess this is what they call 'customer service' lol

I have tested the clock only option. You did a great job in making a "lifelike" digital clock, thumbs up for that.
However, given the fact that this design is purposed for small sizes, I think this is one of those cases when the design has to take a hit in favour of readability. What I mean: it is hard to read the hour at small sizes becouse of the partialy lit crystals that make the matrix. You could try to tone down those said crystals to be barely visible and see if that improves things.

Something in this direction I think would be good (apologize for bad masking, really rushed job):

Hi Jorge, I would like to give you some suggestions:

1 - Add an option to disable only Winstep sounds without disabling the voices.

2 - Adjust the shelf balloons to follow the setting of the label position.

3 - Add an option to display in the dock the label only of winstep applications.

Jorge, since you where 10 steps ahead of me in my previous sujestion (asked for a simple clock, got reminders and a lot more :D ) I thought to give you another idea...

Wile I was running through the settings I noticed an option called "Activate with screen edge swipe instead of edge bump". In the config for the swipe you have the option to set how fast the mouse must swipe the screen to activate the dock.

That made me thinking if the speed requirement could be also set to work vertical.

When I want to activate the dock I tent to "throw" the mouse to the screen edge, wile when I want to press a button, move a windows or whatever, I move the pointer more carefully/slower.

I think that if this can be implemented it could greatly reduce accidental activations, not only for me but for a lot of people.

Here's my own Wishlist, or Catalogue :)

Alas, I already have a very long wishlist Xtreme. But I'l keep it short for now, in order of priority.

Can I say two words - Theme Builder, Theme Builder, Theme Builder! ASAP, top priority, pretty please with a cherry on top and all. ;)

How about adding an option to save Nextstart sounds as a theme and the ability to load themes? Also, an option (also in WS) to set a folder to select sounds from when assigning sounds to create a theme.

An easy way to distinguish settings in NS and WS prefs that are user specific and those that are saved with themes. How about just changing the text colour of one or the other?

A simple toggled int. command for NS to disconnect/connect network, for Win7 up folk who only want to be connected when not doing something else. :)

*Fully* skinnable digital clock so we could use bitmaps for everything in there - much as one could do by hacking into the old Icondock and replacing all the bitmaps (an awful lot of them!) - inc. all the text elements. Also, the ability to use a completely freeform design, for both in-shelf and desktop. Or have I missed that already?

Would it be at all possible to have some kind of internal command or other function that would, in a regular WS Tab, open a folder on that tab when single clicked as a list view, perpendicular to the shelf, closing when an item is selected to either launch or be added to the tab? This would be extremely useful in a tab with mixed content for a specific project where I might have a folder/s with files I may temporarily want to have quick access to, either to launch or to create a link in that tab.

Post subject:  Re: Winstep Wish List

I've been using winstep for the past few years, I did notice some bugs , can't remember what, but did report them years ago, though I thought winstep was abandoned as last time I looked no activity other than people thinking it was dead.

In another thread, seems to be talk about it not being popular as it was.. IMHO winstep should be built into windows and scrap all that metro junk in win 10 etc. I'm using win7 and just horrified by how microsoft keep trashing the GUI!

I find winstep useful, and really like the themes I have setup.

So back to the topic.. The only slightly annoying thing is the taskbar does seem to update a bit slow.. like 2 or 3 second delay from items opening or closing in the taskbar.

EDIT:
OK I am running 12.2.. just reading back, seems this might have been fixed ?

12.2?! Holy .....!!! That version is 6 years old lol

Time to renew your upgrade subscription for another year? The list of changes and new features since v12.2 is about as long as the distance from here to the moon. ;)

Post subject:  Genie Effect

Hey there, I would really like a Genie effect when you minimize or open windows from the dock just like mac's do.

I really hope that this feature is beeing added.

Hopefully someone is reading this and is going to write a reply if this is possible or not :D
