For the paltry sum of $6,000 USD (oops, I mean $5,999), you can get a Cheese Grater. Unlike most other cheese graters, this comes with an 8-core processor, 32 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. I have to say for that amount of money, those specs are rather underwhelming. Especially the hard drive space. I realize they're probably trying to sell the idea that you can store stuff on the cloud, but given the way Twitter is blowing up, I suspect the idea didn't sell well. Oh, and it will not grate (cheese or anything else). Viva la Apple! |

LOL! Does it do toast too? Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave, poor thing! |

I neglected to think of the significance of "Pro" when they named it the Mac Pro. The is a professional grade machine. Holy cow! I learned more when I watched Marques Brownlee summarized this beast for us. (His video also reminded me that the other form factor they had for the Mac Pro recently was the trash can. Cheese grater is a better choice.) |

8-bore, perhaps? Typical Apple shite - Jobs would have approved. All 'style' and no substance. Actually, grating cheese (or cabbage, for coleslaw) probably is all it's really good for, if you like a very coarse grating. ;P What a bore... Still, MAc-Heads will no doubt queue up in their masses to cough up. The most holy church of the Mac tends to have that effect, it would seem. |

I'm not an Apple fan. That being said, I've always been the kind of computer consultant that told people they should get what they should use or want to use, not what I think they should get. I would support them to the best of my ability with their choice. Regardless of my brand preference, I can still admire a machine when it has the specs deserving of my admiration. Top-end specs (copied from Apple's site...I believe they have only announced the price for the base model, so we don't know how much the below will cost when it comes out): 28-Core 2.5GHz Intel Xeon W 28 cores, 56 threads Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz 66.5MB cache Supports 2933MHz memory 1.5TB (of RAM) 12 128GB DIMMs Requires 24-core or 28-core processor. (This amount of RAM runs at 2933 MHz.) AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo Two Vega II GPUs, each with 64 compute units and 4096 stream processors 64GB of HBM2 memory (32GB per GPU), each with 1TB/s memory bandwidth Up to 28.2 teraflops single precision or 56.4 teraflops half precision Onboard Infinity Fabric Link connection connects the two Vega II GPUs at up to 84GB/s Four Thunderbolt 3 ports and one HDMI 2.0 port on card Four DisplayPort connections routed to system to support internal Thunderbolt 3 ports Support for up to eight 4K displays, four 5K displays, or four Pro Display XDRs Full-height MPX module fills an MPX bay and uses extra power and PCIe bandwidth Two MPX Modules or up to four PCI Express card slots Each MPX bay provides: x16 gen 3 bandwidth for graphics x8 gen 3 bandwidth for Thunderbolt DisplayPort video routing Up to 500W power for an MPX Module Alternatively, each MPX bay can support: One full-length, double-wide x16 gen 3 slot and one full-length, double-wide x8 gen 3 slot (MPX bay 1) Or two full-length, double-wide x16 gen 3 slots (MPX bay 2) Up to 300W auxiliary power via two 8-pin connectors Three full-length PCI Express gen 3 slots One x16 slot; two x8 slots 75W auxiliary power available One half-length x4 PCI Express gen 3 slot with Apple I/O card installed Afterburner ProRes and ProRes RAW accelerator card PCI Express x16 card Accelerates ProRes and ProRes RAW codecs in Final Cut Pro X, QuickTime Player X, and supported third-party apps Supports playback of up to 3 streams of 8K ProRes RAW or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes RAW 4TB SSD Two 2TB modules Up to 2.6GB/s sequential read and 2.7GB/s sequential write performance. Storage encrypted by the Apple T2 Security Chip. There's more. Go watch the video in my last post or check out the official page if you want to read the rest of the specs. I don't have the emotional investment to put down a group of people who have a brand preference (*cough* Linux *cough*) and/or are perfectly happy spending their own hard-earned money where they will. It's their choice and more power to them. It's fair to say that this is not for the average consumer. Not even the base model will be purchased by many non-professional users. The monitor features some slick technology. (Although, the $1,000 monitor stand is turning out to be a bit of a joke in terms of PR.) |

DesertDwarf wrote: we don't know how much the below will cost when it comes out) Want to know how much it will cost? Too much. You would have to sell your house to buy one of this. In fact, with Apple now selling a monitor *stand* (you heard that right, just the basic metal *stand*) for a cool 1,000 USD (well, $999.99), even selling your house might not be enough lol The 4K monitor itself will cost you 'only' $6,000 USD btw. First time the fan crowd at an Apple WWDC actually boos in disaproval. The video might not be up for very long, Apple has been issuing DMCA takedowns left and right of videos displaying that moment. |
