Now here's a real weird one. I securely deleted about 130 or so GB in older backup files from one of my backup USB disks. Finally, securely del'd the trash as well. This seemed to take inordinately long, considering there were only 0 Byte files there. Now, prior to this, free space (on a 5TB drive) was down to ~1.5TB. Only when the trash had finished did I finally notice that free space on that drive had gone up to ~2.6TB, which I thought impossible. No matter how I checked it, things stayed the same.

Did Eraser go bonkers and delete a substantial part of my data, or perhaps there was a lot of hidden stuff in the trash to account for it? Feck knows. Totally bewildered and tomorrow going to thoroughly check the drive against its duplicate (well, near duplicate in that it's a 4TB +2TB drives at present).

I'm also thinking of replacing all my USB disks with 2 1/2 in. ones as and when they need replacing, splitting them into 2 or 3x 4TB ones unless/until reliable larger capacities become available in this size. I already have one and it's at least as nippy as the 3 1/2 in. disks under USB 3. Gets a lot less hot, no noise, less energy consumption, more portable, etc. etc. - no end of advantages, it would seem. Any disadvantages that anyone knows of?
