Over the past few months I keep getting email telling me that I have a new private message in the forums. That, however, is never the case. Code: You have received a new private message to your account on "Winstep Forums" and you have requested that you be notified on this event. You can view your new message by clicking on the following link:

These notifications happen because spammers have now resorted to PMing forum members instead of spamming the forums themselves. I usually ban them shortly after this, which also automatically deletes any private messages sent by them - this explains the notification and the empty inbox. I'm doing the best I can to catch and deal with these spammers in time, but the only way to fix this problem for good would be to disable Private Messaging altogether - not a good solution. |
