Hey people,

I have been reading some web hosting reviews but i want to see if any of you have a good rec for a hosting provider.
Price is obviously a concern as is uptime. I don't need dedicated. Shared should work fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Can't really say as I've only tried one since Yahoo shutdown my
GeoCities account last year.

Though I haven't done anything with it I set myself up at FatCow.
Initially the price was good (includes a domain name) but renewal may
be considered pricey at $88 or so.
They do offer a grip of features for that price though, including unlimited
email accounts and all kinds of tools one would need, even for
shopping.
At the moment they're offering $66/yr. I made sure to re-read that
a few times (and in a few places) to make sure it wasn't only for the first
year. Sign up now and apparently that price sticks.

There are so many choices out there that it's kind of hard to choose.
GeoCities was cool while it lasted. Free with no uptime problems that I
knew of.

Marc

Oh Marc, you just wasted your time replying to a bot.

In a couple of days he would return (but won't, because I'll ban him first, hehe) stating that he found a super duper web host at such and such location.

Oooh, I feel so dumb about now.

Regarding the forums, not bad. New look that matches up with the main site somewhat.
Went into the control panel and tested the IDLaunch (new default?) and Winstep themes.
Looks more business-like. I hadn't noticed if any of those were present before.
It's been awhile since I changed any prefs.
I like the new look.

The Winstep PHPBB3 theme is still under construction - Johanne is currently working on it. For now just use the default, place holder, IDLaunch_Black. :D

do you know anyone who can take the following and bring it up to date? it would make a great addition to the winstep family of products. say "Winstep Architect"

(I know it is almost a month ago, but just had to respond here)
If Jorge did that, he'd be in legal trouble. The original author has to give Jorge written permission to use the product in the Winstep family (and has the right to
    require a royality
require a specific price for the product (so Winstep might get more expensive)
require Jorge to other specific conditions
) or give Jorge all the ownerships (Ownership of name, product, author and so on...)
In the end, it is a nice idea... But a lot of hassle in case the author finds out and decides to demand the royalties and a cease&desist order

bud please understand the law. the creator never registered desktop architect, it is not copyrighted in other words. the author has not worked on it in years. this leaves it wide open to be reworked by anyone who chooses to do so. plus the code for this is such that i am quite sure in bringing it up to date it can be rewritten in such a way that it will in no way resemble the original program. please think something completely through before dismissing it out of hand.

"Buddy", you're forgetting one important aspect of the law: Authorship.
As it stands now, in my opinion with the understanding of the Dutch law, if the author sued Jorge for using his program (or writing a program with a clear intention of being a 'clone' of the author's program) for commercial usage, it is in my opinion clear enough for a judge to say that the author is correct and that Jorge should pay damages.

Even in the case Jorge tries to work around that (by writing it entirely from scratch, which is very time consuming! or something else) I'm quite sure that Jorge wouldn't want to invest the time in a potential lawsuit.

I do agree that amazing programs should be preserved as much as possible, but I think it is completely unreasonable to ask someone to invest a massive number of work into something of which the end result might only cause said person a lot of trouble and just a little money. That is up to Jorge to decide though.
Besides, Jorge is at the moment very involved with Winstep Xtreme as it is now. I'm not sure whether he does want to invest time into writing another program. I haven't looked further into this yet, but especially if you don't have access at all to the source code (and nope, the files you get while installing a program isn't enough, they're all compiled already, you need the pre-compiled files...)
