EDIT: Original post was in the off-topic section, moved to the Articles section and changed the title.

So, after nearly 3 months of waiting for all the parts to become available, the new system is *almost* here (GPU should arrive on Monday).

This will replace the (at the time) top of the range system I brought back in 2012 (which has lasted me well over 6 years). Given that Moore's law is no longer what it once was, it pays off to spend some serious money upfront so you can have a development system that will last you for many, many, years to come.

Quite a system! But curious, why Intel? Most gamers I know seem to prefer AMDs. Hope you don't have probs with dust with that case. I've fitted washable dust filters to all intakes in all cases since the Athlon came along.

Anyway, have fun. :)

I'm brand agnostic - I choose whatever is currently the best. At the moment AMD is great for low to medium range or if price is an issue, but otherwise you go Intel.

The CPU is an 8 core 16 thread 9900K.
32 GB DDR4 RAM at 3200 Mhz.
960GB Intel Optane 905p for the main system drive.
2TB Samsung NVMe 970 EVO for everything else.
nVidia 2080TI so I can finally play some games at 60 FPS on my 4K monitor.

The case is a Cooler Master C700M - matches my current Cosmos II perfectly! :) It has plenty of dust filters, here is a video review of the case:

We're still waiting for Noctua to send us their Chromax black fans so we can replace the fans in that fugly color. :)

Agnostic here too. Though bit concerned about that Intel hardware 'bug' - think that's why my laptop might seem so relatively slow. Also, my friend's suppliers seem to swear by AMD and the last few years have used them exclusively in all workstations and servers they supply. (My friend's 8 core/16 thread server seems fast as greased lightning, which I shall 'inherit' about February/March, complete with board and 64 Gig RAM. :) They're upgrading to 16 core due to increasing load.) Don't know about AMD being much cheaper if at all these days - here in UK they seem to be about the same for same spec.

Anyway, very impressive system. Good re: the dust filters. Seems like a very well designed case, though personally I couldn't live with the transparent panels and the lights. :)

Should be lots of fun for/with gaming Jorge, which I wish you as well.

Jorge, it looks to be a very sweet system. I'd be jealous if I did more on mine than listen to music and futz around web browsing.

Eheh, thanks. The color of those Noctua fans kills me, though! Sigh  :D

So who cares? In a normal case you wouldn't see them at all, and even with your darklu transparent side panels they'll be hardly noticeable... :)

And you would be right except for all the RGB. That freakin case and motherboard look like a 70's disco. :)

Even Intel added RGB to the Optane! How crazy is that? lol

This is getting ridiculous. My new system has been sitting on limbo for the past week because - I've been told - the two attempts to try and screw the Optane at the lowest PCI slot of the case caused two screws to break and get stuck in the holes.

They blame the screws that came with the case, saying they're bad quality.

I have never heard of something like this happening before. Anyway, two more photos:

Good news, it's going to be ready tomorrow. Not going to tell you exactly how much it cost, but here is the breakdown in components:

CPU: Intel Core i9 9900K 8 cores 16 threads
Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 + NA-HC3 Chromax Black
Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI FORMULA
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Black LED 2x16GB DDR4 3200Mhz
GPU: Asus GeForce ROG STRIX RTX2080 TI OC
Storage: Intel SSD Optane 905P 960GB PCIe NVME
SAMSUNG SSD 970 EVO 2TB M.2 NVME
HDD Western Digital 4TB SATA III Blue
PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra 850W 80Plus Titanium Modular
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos C700M

I will say this, though: the price of this system is DOUBLE what I paid for a similar system back in 2012 (i.e.; also top of the range *at the time*). Things are not getting cheaper as they should, they are getting a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE instead.

'Reassuringly' expensive, I'd say. Scary. It's not surprising though that desktop hardware keeps increasing in price. It's simply a matter of numbers.

First, desktop PCs were hit by increasing use of laptops, even in the commercial/business sector. Then came smartphones and as screens got bigger and more and more apps came along, they made inroads into the market as well. And when tablets started to really take off, that hit even harder. I know of quite a few people who only have bloody tablets and smartphones!

Alas, it's the economics of scale. Laptops - with all their limitations - are now cheaper than many a similar specced desktop (at UK prices anyway), and Joe Average out there has less and less use for a high-performance or any other kind of desktop anymore when he can - and often does - do everything on his effing phone. Of course, that still leaves gamers and high end workstations and small servers, but by comparison that's a pretty small market alas.

So if you really want to upgrade to state of the art again in 6-8 yrs' time Jorge, I reckon you could well end up paying more than double waht you paid now. wouldn't surprise me anyway.
