I am a big fan of Winstep and converted from Stardock so love the application.
I have been using it fine for awhile now but just recently when I tried to make a new dock I had some major issues.
Usually I just create a dock and then drop either shortcuts I have created or just pull the link from the windows start bar and just "drop them in" I can no longer do that anymore. When I drop an icon onto the dock I get a white "document" style icon and everything breaks if I try and use it.
I have posted a pic of the issue.
This is me trying to drop the icon (shortcut) for HWINFO64 to the doc. It created the white icon and then I opened the properties. If I click on the white icon I get a "unspecified error" pop up window.
I have tired this on many icons and links and nothing works anymore.
However if I go to the dock and "insert a new dock item" and browse for my .exe or app it works fine ... albeit inconvenient.

Please Help,
Storm X

The way that works for me is if it's a shortcut on the Desktop. I just installed HWiNFO64 (ugh, what a name!) and it didn't create a Desktop shortcut.

That being the case, what did you drag onto the Dock?

I had no problem dragging the shortcut from my Start Menu.

I was using that as an example. I cannot drop anything on the dock anymore. Not from a shortcut, not from the start menu, not by directly opening an explorer, nothing will drop on the dock anymore.

All of them become the white doc icon
The properties are the one listed in the example for all of them. So no data. Some times it shows some Chinese writing.

I have tried to reinstall the program and went back to version 18 but still it has issues.

Go to the Windows Control Panel -> Region -> Administrative tab -> Change System Locale

What is the language for non-unicode programs set to? Does it match the OS language?

Well the Region setting was in: English (United States)
But I notices that the "Beta Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support" was checked. I unchecked it since it said "Beta" and bam Bob's your uncle.

So the good news is that was it ... wow I would have never thought in a million years that would have been the issue .. thank god you did.

Nice work and thanks again.

Lately Microsoft's official releases behave like betas, and their betas are, well, alphas.
