Feel free to post here about any new features you would like to see added to Winstep software. :D

OK -- You asked for it! Here are some old ones...

1. Go back to using an ini file instead of writing to the registry. Those of us without administrative privileges are stuck with older NS versions, and forget about WS!

2. When I'm using NS to browse through folders, I can double-click on a folder to open it in Explorer. Enhance that feature so that I can specify (In the NS configuration screens) the use of a filemanager other than Explorer.

3. A VWM applet for WS. Wanda was about as nonfunctional as you could get; cute, but not particularlyl helpful. I, for one, could do without the long-awaited dock, but a VWM that could be integrated into WS or the NS startbar would be a real, functional asset.

4. Refine and include something like Nick's CallHotSpot executable, so that we can open NS menus from other (i.e. non-NS) applications or shortcuts. For instance, I might use it to start a specific NS menu from an ObjectDock shortcut or from AveDesk.

On the eyecandy side:

4. Use of PNGs or other file formats so that we can have skins with selective transparency.

5. The ability to design more "freeform" menus. For example, most (if not all) of the Objectbar themes I've seen lately are replicating the XP-style start menu, with two parallel columns of menu buttons. AFIK, you can't do that with NS at this point.

That's about all I can think of right now...

I would like to see a "drawer" applet for the startbar, similar to the one you could get in Gnome.

Oh, and a qcd or itunes control would be cool.

And winstep T-shirts :D

I've asked for these elsewhere but just to repeat the request in the official place.

1. Alarm functions in the workshelf clock. Multiple alarms with pop up messages.

2. Calander with pop up reminders.

something i really miss in windows: a good file manager (like the one in nextstep or the mac os x one). winbrowser is slow and does not "feel" right. in nextstart, however, there is already something similar (when it makes you navigate to a file) that feels much better. maybe you could expand on that and make it part of nextstart... or even a separate application.

A notes module, perhaps built into the previously asked for calander module. :D

I've asked in the past for a "shelf in a shelf". But perhaps
there are other more efficient alternatives toward the same
goal. For instance, what about a special command that allows
the launching of other shelf sets? Or a side-scrolling
WorkShelf?

Just because I don't reply in here please don't automatically assume I don't read and/or care about your suggestions: nothing can be further from the truth, in fact some of the suggestions in here are already on the to-do list and will eventually be implemented.

Feedback and user suggestions are VERY important to me, so please keep them comming! :D

Heh? NextSTART and WorkShelf already support 32-bit XP style icons.

Now, if you are talking about PNG files, that's another story: GDI+ support (and therefore PNG) is going to be added in the next version.

Ahhh, I've been making all my icons win2000 style.

/me whips out Icon Workshop to rework all the icons. The new 'expanding' icon (in WS) looks a bit choppy when expanded.

/me vows to pay more attention :)

oh right.... GDI+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! transparent .png's????????? This is awesome news Jorge. Very cool.

Thanks so much for that.

1. More cool sounds.

2. Weather needs to be able to be updated more often than once an hour. Weather also needs a forcast.

3. As previously stated, alarms would be good.

4. Hire themers!

5. Uptime.

Hmmm... Create an 'Auto Run' hotspot associated to a menu created with the Menu Editor that contains a single entry: System Uptime. Don't forget to give the hotspot a unique group name so the associated menu always remains on the screen.
