hi, i was just wondering where you get the database of services? reason i ask is some of the sources in the module appear to be dead. more specifically, i live in portland, oregon. there are a number of services listed for portland but only a couple of them work and only one provided forecasts (portland, nexrad) until it recently died - nexrad has some issues staying online from what i've gathered. i was mainly wondering if the links are ever updated and if so what the source was. i also wanted to know if i could specify my own? i have an weather extension installed on firefox anyway so its no biggy but i did kinda like having it on my desktop, especially for a one glance 5 day forecast with a minimum of fluff.

Weather codes aren't working in Winstep, Rainmeter, DX, Avedesk, etc. There's discussions happening over at Rainmeter Forum http://www.rainmeter.net/forum/viewtopi ... 3930#p3930 and Wincustomize Forum http://forums.wincustomize.com/358595/page/4/#2293352 about this. Supposedly Weather.com has cut XML feeds to over 3,500 locations and the rest are supposed to go down tonite. Anybody have any ideas?

an accuweather based widget/module? forecastbar enhanced for firefox is working perfectly(accuweather), also rainlendar2 has a couple of skins (statica and shadow4) that use an rss feed from weather.msn.com which is also working perfectly. from what i've read, weather.com isn't going to be possible any longer, no more xml.

Not again!

Weather.com pulled a similar stunt a year ago or so.

I made it work again here by adding '&link=xoap&prod=xoap' to the XML request string.

Unfortunately that string is hard coded into the program, so you guys won't be able to change it and will have to wait for an emergency release (don't you just love Weather.com's timing?)

They pulled up a similar stunt to this last year or so, again by changing the request format. At least back then they warned authors before it happened, but, alas, they didn't even bother this time.

I'm going to make the XML request a user modifiable setting (a bit like the METAR HTML search string) to prevent cases like this in the future.

Ok, I already added user-specifiable Weather.com URL and Request strings to the Advanced dialog of the Weather Module settings dialog. If they pull a similar stunt again, the user himself will be able to change the request string until a new version comes out.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me thrice, jeez, I must be a bloody idiot!

When will we be able to get the update?

Good question! I'm right in the middle of upgrading Winstep Xtreme to the new User Interface.

I'm probably going to be forced to release it as a public beta (available from the Update Manager if you have it set to warn you about betas) within the next couple of days.

I suppose this is easier said than done, but...

You should have the updates checked by component rather than by suite. Then working on something else won't be such a huge issue when it comes to minor changes.

You need to rewrite the update manager anyway to support update of individual language files, so why not extend that to cover modules and the separate software in the winstep xtreme suite too.

In this case it's ok since betas and official versions are checked separately: betas are only displayed if you are otherwise up-to-date.

As with the private beta in the Beta Forums, I will only include WorkShelf in the beta upgrade pack.

Looks like Weather.com has gone back on their decision and is again accepting weather forecast requests using the old format (which means the weather module is working again in WSX 9.5 and earlier).

Lets see if this lasts.

That weather gadget works because it is AccuWeather.com.

Rest do not work unless modified.

Any Weather.com left at WC after 20th are going to be pulled.

none of the locations are working for portland. i would imagine that any fix would only be temporary at best. its obvious that weather.com doesn't want their bandwidth used in that way so i would propose using a different service altogether...accuweather seems to have a lot of features and i've personally never had any trouble with them. Just a suggestion.

Spazdaddy, is that with 9.5 or with the latest WorkShelf beta?

Also, what is the state for 'your' Portland? Oregon? Maine?

What I find strange is that weather forecast is working again with the OLD request format for Lisbon and Cascais (Portugal), for instance.
