Sub Dock Direction

Hi Folks,

I'm missing a setting somewhere...

Picture this: Horizontal dock at the top of screen. Sub dock #1 comes down vertically. Sub dock #2 (off of Sub Dock #1) is set for horizontal.

Sub Dock #2 opens either to the left or to the right - apparently depending upon whether other programs are running or not (icons on the dock stay in same relative positions).

Is there a way to lock Sub Dock #2 so that it always opens to the left or right?

It will open to where it has more space to fit...
