I don't know what possessed me to finally click on the "update" message Winstep was giving me but I did so today. Now I have a huge headache. My weather module configuration settings have all been lost. I can't find the file I originally tinkered with to set it all up. I think it was a text file, maybe a .ini file?

I'm really bummed. I used that module ALL the time.

Help!

Chris

Hi Chris...

You should always update to the latest version as soon as it comes out - each release is filled with a ton of new features, so ordinarily you have nothing to lose and all to gain.

This said, it is unclear *which* of the two possible configuration files you mean. One of the configuration files has the location database and corresponding METAR/Weather.com codes, the other is dependent on the current theme and defines the look of the desktop weather module. The locations of these configuration files are also different.

Which one did you change?

Hi Jorge,

I didn't do anything with the locations database file. The file I tinkered with was an editable text file that changed the look of the weather module.

The reason I tinkered with it is that the weather module just looked terrible with the particular theme I'm using. I got it to a pretty useful state and was pretty happy with it.

After the upgrade, the weather module doesn't work at all. Just shows the background and that's it.

Thanks, Chris

OK - I found the files I was looking for but the real fix turned out to be simply converting the old .bmp background file to .png. Did the trick.
