This happens sometimes when I try to use the preferences of the workshelf.

Also, when I click on the backup button on the Advanced Tab, nothing happens.

It looks like workshelf is not working properly here.

I tried a full de-install and re-install, Problem remains the same. Since the message tells me to contact Winstep support if the re-install fails, I am doing this now

I noticed this issue, when I wanted to add another dock, but the dock didn't appear on the screen.

Now when I add a new dock winshelf crashes fully with the windows message

Thanks for any information regarding this matter :)

After this crash and restarting my machine, workshelf loaded with a new dock right on my screen. It seems that the first dock was created but didn't show up. However, workshelf runs now up to 1,912,127 in the taskmanager and then stops working, the docks don't react.

Any ideas?

Welcome to DLL hell.

Search your Windows folder and sub-folders for copies of Comctl32.ocx.

How many did you find? What are their version numbers?

Hey Jorge,

please no sarcasm :P :D Now I try to create one dock in months and it gives me such trouble, lol.

There is one comctl32.ocs in folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Here is the rest of the information, hope that helps :)

Image

I today noticed this error only occures when I try to access the preferences page of winshelf. Winshelf itself keeps freezing after reaching the 1,9 gig memory. When I try to access winshelf preferences before it reaches the 1,9 gig this error occurs, omg.

I somehow suspect the failed creation of the new dock is causing this issue. However, I cannot delete this dock, it keeps reoccuring after restarting winshelf, seems like winshelf cannot save that the dock is deleted.

Is there a way to remove the dock somehow else?

NextStart is working fine, if that informatio helps somehow.

32 bit applications have a 2GB limit in memory usage, that's why the process hangs. Anyway, that is a serious memory leak, caused by God knows what (probably corrupted settings, which might explain why Backup isn't working either).

In all honesty, I think you can only recover from this by re-installing Xtreme from scratch (i.e.; you will lose your current configuration).

So, uninstall Winstep Xtreme and tell it to delete the settings when it asks you about it. You can leave the currently installed themes, though.

Now, go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and *delete* Comctl32.ocx. If you want to play it safe, rename it to Comctl32.bak.

Re-install Winstep Xtreme full again. With that mismatched Comctl32.ocx file deleted, the installer should now be able to install the correct version.

Hello Jorge,

the installer is coming with the version I posted.

Now with the de-install and re-install I have a new problem.

When going to the workshelf preferences tab "Dock&Shelves" and clicking on a dock, workshelf crashes and the dock I clicked on is set disabled. When I go to preferences I can enable the dock again with workshelf crashing and with next start of workshelf the dock is visible again.

Any ideas?

Can you please post a screenshot of the Docks & Shelves tab?

Also, does it make a difference *where* you click on the dock row (i.e.; are you clicking on the images of the Shelf and the docks or in the area to the right where all the controls are)?

Sorry for the late follow up, but I had work up my ... and wasn't really home up to now :/

I have somehow managed to delete the "broken" workshelf. However I don't know it got there in first place.

But the issue with the Workshelf killing itself at points when adding new docks remains. I somehow feel that it depends on how fast one clicks on the buttons to configure stuff.

However I haven't been able to figure out a 100% way to make it crash.

Btw where do I find the latest version numbers? The update still doesn't work for me.

Currently version 11.10 shows:
WorkShelf.exe 11.10.0983
Nextcontrols.ocx 1.00.0151
Region.dll 1.00.0001
wsZip.dll 1.01.0000
wsUnzip.dll 1.01.0000

You are a registered Winstep user, right? As such, please apply for access (if you haven't already) to the Beta Forums section by following the instructions HERE, then download the new beta from there.

My feeling is that the new beta will fix your Update Manager issues.
