I asked this before but found a solution for my friend. I have a similar issue now with the trial version. Is there a hotspot command that can be set to bump the bottom of the screen and show the taskbar when in a maximized window without causing the Windows 7 taskbar to reapear? I find it to be quite annoying lol.

The 'Show Taskbar' internal command is meant to show a previously hidden *Windows* taskbar, not the NextSTART taskbar.

I'm not sure why you have this problem, though. Unless we are talking about a taskbar located in a secondary monitor (in which case this is the sort of detail you should have mentioned in the first place ), the NextSTART taskbar is set by default to reserve screen space so maximized windows will not cover it.

Yeah, I meant the Nextstart bar. I want to have it hidden when a window is maximized but have the function to bring it into view when bumping the bottom of the screen. Much like the auto hide option can do for the Windows 7 taskbar.

Ok, I just tried it here and it seems there was a bug preventing the taskbar from popping to the foreground when coming back from the screen edge. This means it would expand *behind* the maximized window and thus remain inaccessible.

I've fixed it for the next release, but the mean time there is a work-around: open NextSTART Preferences, go to the Taskbar tab, click the Taskbar Settings button and enable the 'Always keep above other windows' setting.

Also, in the same Taskbar Settings dialog, make sure the 'Dock to screen edge' and 'Auto-hide after a short delay' settings are enabled. Then click the Advanced button and make sure the 'Hide into screen edge when docked' setting is also enabled.

Hey there. Thanks for the response and taking the time to find a work around. The work around does do what I want when I'm in a maximized window, but now it hides it when I'm on the desktop, which isn't what I want. I'd like to have the Nextstart bar show when I'm on the desktop but be hidden when I have a window maximized and then be able to bump the bottom of the screen to show it.

Sorry, you can't, at least not currently and with that bring to the foreground bug. Also, as far as I know, the Windows taskbar doesn't do that either.

LOL I know the Windows taskbar doesn't do that. That's the whole reason I'm trying out this program and was considering buying it.

Was? And from all that Winstep Xtreme can do, this little detail is the thing stopping you? :D

Anyway, I just pointed that out because of your 'Much like the auto hide option can do for the Windows 7 taskbar' comment.

Thing is, the NextSTART taskbar, unlike the Windows taskbar, *can* be made NOT to reserve screen space so a maximized window is able to cover it, while still remaining visible at other times. All you need to do is clear the 'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' and the 'Auto hide after a short delay'.

But with that foreground bug, this won't do you any good because there currently is no way to bring a taskbar sitting behind a maximized window forward.

maybe this is a project for someone in the theming forums. maybe hack the show desktop button by the systray to bring the taskbar forward instead of showing the desktop, or create an app that sits in the systray for doing it.

Yes, I meant "was". I hate to say it but that feature was what I was really looking for. Call it narcissistic or OCD but I'm a Linux user and have used Ubuntu for many years. One of the main things I loved about Ubuntu was the ability to hide the Quicklaunch sidebar when I had Google Chrome maximized but have it show all the time when I had the window minimized. To be frank, that's all I'm looking for in a program such as this.

Yes the other features are very nice and I have to admit that I do enjoy them but without that one feature that I'm looking for, I'm going to have to pass. I'll check back on the next release and if it's possible, I will most likely be purchasing this product. That is if the price is right. I haven't even looked at the price packages well yet, so I will have to take that into consideration as well.

Thanks for the responses.

There's a new beta of Winstep Xtreme, which you can download from HERE, that fixes the taskbar foreground issue I mentioned and implements the functionality you need.
