I had a thought the other day while using the Nexus dock that I believe could certainly improve the ease of use. Currently, when a custom icon is chosen for a dock item then it appears to link to that icon wherever it is located on the computer. Which is fine, until that icon is moved to a new location, renamed or deleted or when a user is attempting to restore their settings after, say, installing on a new system or after a drive format.

Would it be possible to implement some sort of an icon cache system into the nexus dock so that every time a custom icon is chosen for a dock item, that particular icon is cached somewhere in Nexus's backup files? That way, just as with the settings backup file, this icon cache backup can be just as easily restored. And naturally, this will eliminate the nuisance of Nexus dock being entirely dependent on the original file and folder structure of the user's collection of icons.

As you might imagine, currently this particular issue often becomes a rather annoying one when a user has a large number of custom icons associated with their dock. I really believe something like this would be a wonderful increase in the ease of use of the software.

And as always, keep up the good work!

Short of building something like that into the program it's easy enough to do on you own (it's what I do).

I've just created a directory off the root directory on a drive (Call it whatever you want) and store your icons there.

Since the icon file used in any of these tools is independent of winstep or the target application (it can be) it doesn't matter where it is.

The exception is then you use an icon associated with another program and the icon is embedded into the exe of the program. For example the icon for firefox (and most programs) is actually stored within firefox itself.

But custom icons can be anywhere.

I actually have a directory off the root on one of my drives (as I said) called 0-system (the 0 is to make it easy to find sorted alphabetically) where I've created other sudirs to hold "system related" stuff. Icons, custom sound files, winstep backup files, notes on various program "quirks" I need to do if I restore a system drive image, that sort of thing.
