Hi,

I have searched thoroughly for an answer before posting with no luck, if this has been covered before, my apologies, I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction...

I have a Nexus Dock (12.2) installed on 2 systems, a Laptop and a Desktop - Both are Win7 x64 with pretty much the exact same settings (Transparency etc may differ slightly)

Both are located at the top of the screen and set to auto-hide.

Everything works just as it should on the Desktop system.

However, on the laptop, every time the system starts (or I log on) the dock remains visible. When I hover over an item it doesn't magnify like it should, and the dock won't hide.

Every time I start my system I have to go into preferences, de-select auto-hide, apply. Re-select auto-hide and apply. Everything then works perfectly.

It's getting tedious now, especially as it's basically the same system as my desktop which is on all day, but my laptop could be power cycled several times in a day.

I have tried re-installing the software. Also this isn't a problem that has manifested over time, it's been like this since I originally installed.

Hopefully someone out there may have had a similar experience or is knowledgeable enough to be able to suggest a solution because I'm stumped. But I don't want to give up on this software.

Many thanks for taking the time to read and any suggestions you may have...

Seems to me like something at startup on your laptop makes the dock think it's hidden when in reality it is visible.

Does bumping the screen edge to activate the dock not work?

Something else you could try: instead of having Nexus run automatically via the built-in setting, disable that setting and copy the Nexus icon to the Startup group in the Start Menu. That might cause a delay on startup long enough for whatever is causing Nexus to become confused to happen BEFORE Nexus launches.

Hi Thanks for getting back to me. No, bumping off the top edge does nothing.

Will try your other suggestion in a bit and get back to you, sounds like it could have promise.

I've also been messing about with a program called 'startup delayer' so might try putting it on a 1 or 2 min delay so the dock isn't launched during the 'scramble' of programs loading at startup, but slightly afterwards.

Can't believe I haven't thought of doing the same!!

Will report back and let you know, thanks again...

Try Autoruns. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 63902.aspx

It's an excellent program approved by you guessed it, Kim Komando. I've been using it for years.

It is a utility (Portable Application) that does not install, so it will not show in (All) Programs or anything else designed to show installed programs. Once open, go to the Login tab and check the things you want to run on startup and then save it to whatever location/folder you prefer.

One important thing you have to remember. If you want to change something after you saved it, you have to open the autoruns Autostart Program Viewer which is the original file used to configure and save it (not autorunsc which is for Command Line unless well versed in its usage) and change it there.

YOU CANNOT DO IT VIA THE SAVED FILE. They look identical when opened so that's why I'm calling attention to it because one might think it can be done that way.

Hey, thanks. I'm just finishing up at work (can't download it here :( ).

What can/should I do once I run it, delay the nexus startup?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks again...

No, you shouldn't have to delay anything with Nexus. Go through the list of things under the Logon tab that are checked and uncheck everything you don't need to run on startup. Believe me, your computer will thank you for it. The more things you uncheck, the quicker it should start up.

There's a possibility the reason you're having problems is that there's a program fighting with Nexus to gain control, so if you're lucky that one of the programs you don't need on startup is the culprit, you're good to go.

Also make sure that everything related to Winstep is set to run on startup.

Oh BTW, if for some reason the unneeded programs aren't the problem, go one by one unchecking programs that you need just to make sure that one of them isn't the problem. That way, by process of elimination it can help narrow down what's causing the problem.

Of course you know that you have to resave the file after each change for it to take effect.
