Any particular reason why you guys/gals don't keep the old version around. Isn't it a file that's only a few megabytes? It shouldn't take up much space right?

It quickly adds up. Remember it's not just Winstep Xtreme (44 MB), it's Nexus Ultimate (35 MB) plus the free version of Nexus (32 MB). That's over 110 MB per release, Winstep does about three or four of those per year, and server disk space costs serious money... do the math. ;-)

Storing only the last x releases would not help either - where do you draw the line then? So it makes better sense not to store older versions - I don't even have them on my local hard disks. :)

I may consider going with the $39.99 package just to have the NextStart Pro at my disposal (even though I haven't used the NextStart much at all).

That's because you disabled the replacement taskbar which provides the quickest way to access NextSTART Preferences (press CTRL+F12 instead). You're missing out though - NextSTART allows you to create various customized menus which can be activated by a wide range of different hotspot types.

I discovered Wanda. I like her. A next request would be for Wanda to truly "swim" around my screen utilizing all three axis - x, y, and z or whatever it's call (3 dimensional or whatever).

Alas, Wanda is a 2D fish, so no can do, sorry. I love her too, it's based on the Linux Wanda fish (although Winstep's version is a lot more attractive).

Some years ago I tried to hire some guys to create several different tropical fish 'skins' for Wanda, but they all came up short. The animations they came up with were terrible, not natural at all, so I had to give up on the idea. I even contacted some guys who do 3D Aquarium screen savers, but they probably thought I was trying to create a competing product (I wasn't) so they turned me down.

Will Wanda be getting a companion or environmental interactions in the future?

I highly doubt it, even though it might be a possibility once I add the ability to have multi-session desktop modules (for instance, different clocks set to different time zones, different weather modules displaying weather conditions at different locations, etc)... but without different skins for Wanda, it would be pretty boring.

Anyway, for now and as I said above, I have no interest in creating an Aquarium-type screensaver/wallpaper environment. :)

I usually just stick with the version I initially buy

Don't do that with Winstep products, each release is packed with new truly useful features and improvements - take advantage of the year of free upgrades. :)

For instance, the 15.12 beta, among many other things, introduces clock alarms which can run programs, internal commands or show a reminder with optional music (and can thus be used as an alarm clock to wake you up) plus a new battery monitor module.

Which reminds me... I saw a disabled battery systray icon on your screenshots. What happens if you add a battery monitor module to your dock?

Don't know much about HOTSPOTS.

Hotspots are simply methods of activation (e.g.; bumping screen edges or corners, clicking buttons on the desktop or specific areas on your desktop, or areas on specific windows, etc...) associated to specific actions (e.g.; display a menu, run a program, run an internal command, etc...)

Don't know if I should "delete" that icon in the red box. If I do, can I get it back? I left click on it and it says "EMPTY," and right click properties brings up "EDITOR." Didn't want to mess with it until I find some type of tutorial for it. Don't want to mess anything up.

If you haven't already, make a backup of your current settings so if something gets messed up you can always go back. To make a backup of WorkShelf settings, open WorkShelf Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, click the Backup button. To make a backup of NextSTART settings, open NextSTART Preferences (press CTRL+F12 or access it via NextSTART's icon on the system tray), go to the Advanced tab and click the Backup button.

I don't know what you did, but that button you mention should open the main NextSTART menu when you click on it. Check the Hotspots tab in NextSTART Preferences to have an idea of what happened.

Stumbled onto one of your youtube video showing the following theme. I can't find it in Winstep Xtreme at all. Is it only available in the paid version?

That's Nx-WaterBath, a dock only skin/theme. You can download it from HERE, but read THIS first.

Could you just get a Western Digital 3 TB external harddrive from like Best Buys or something for around $100 dollars? :) What if you were to do a historical account of your Winstep from beginning to current. It's going to be difficult not having the previous versions.

If space is an issue, if it was me, I would probably consider storing the past 5 most recent releases. The others gets purged (or gets stuck into a Western Digital 3 TB external harddrive).

Alright Wanda...

Just went ahead and made backups for both the Workshelf and NextStart. Got the NXWaterBath. Thanks.

As for the HOTSPOT. Is there anyway to move the HOTSPOT icon somewhere off my desktop or do I have to keep that on the desktop. I tried hiding desktop icons, but it's still there. I tried hitting delete on it, and it said it can't be deleted (which is good to know). I still don't know how to actually get it to work, tried searching the web for answers, but couldn't find anything. I'll just have to experiment this week or the next.

Battery Module shows empty. It's a desktop PC plugged into an outlet. Is this normal for AC plugged in computers?

Ahah, I said *server* storage space.

Why would I want to do that? :)

Why 5? Why not 6? Or 4? And then what happens when a user needs a version released back in 2012 which is not on the server? I have to upload it to the server, then delete it when it is no longer necessary, etc...?

See what I mean? :) No thanks. The user is responsible for keeping a backup of both his license key and the application itself. It's just common sense - after all, what would happen if, for instance - God forbid - Winstep went tits up?

Press CTRL+F12 to bring up NextSTART Preferences then post a screenshot of the Hotspots tab so I can have a look at it.

Yep, pretty much. I just asked because one of the first screenshots you posted showed a disabled battery icon in the system tray. What is not normal is for Windows to show a battery icon in the system tray for a desktop PC not plugged into an UPS or battery of some kind.

Anyway, since the battery monitor module is brand new, I just wanted to see what would happen in your case. :)

:) External Harddrives .. :)

Hotspot.

EDIT: I just figured out how to "remove" that HOTSPOT icon from my desktop. All I need was to get access to the NEXTStart Preference menu (pictured below), under the Hotspot tab, simply uncheck the box for New Menu, press apply and that did the trick.

Now to figure out how to work with these hotspots and how to "program" them to do things.

Reading a little bit more on Winstep, I stumbled across "Theme Builder." I know it's still early, but hopefully if someone does buy Winstep Xtreme like right now or within the current month, s/he would get access to its final version 1.0 release.

Keeping backup versions of 1.0 Winstep and all releases allows one to create cool videos like such:
