Help!?!?!

Somehow, I made it so tasklist thumbnails appear underneath any window that overlaps the area on which they would appear.

How shall I attempt to fix this misbehavior?

I'm running 20.3 of NextSTART.

Eh? That's a first.

Have you tried restarting Winstep Xtreme? If that didn't work, did you try rebooting your computer?

Oops. I forgot to mention it's been going on for a while. I shut down each night and boot up each morning. I've exited and restarted. I've reverted all settings back to default.

I'm almost thinking it was a Microsoft update. I installed 1909 rather late...in February.

I wish I'd made a note of when the NextSTART started misbehaving so I could be sure it was that.

While writing the above, I realized I had not yet installed the March cumulative update. I just did that and now the thumbnails are in front like they're supposed to be.

So, thanks Microsoft, for screwing things up again and then fixing them again. lol

I spoke too soon. They're behind again.

Strange.

Make a backup of your NextSTART settings (and you might as well also do backup of your WorkShelf settings while at it), then go to the Advanced tab in NextSTART Preferences, click the Troubleshooting Options button and click the 'Reset Settings Only' button.

See if that fixes it, which would prove this to be a settings issue. If that doesn't work, try Reset Everything before giving up and restoring from the backup.

Also, are you using any 'unusual' third party software?

I'd already tried the reset route (see the first paragraph of the third message above).

But, I did wonder if it was CursorFX, which was newly-updated and newly-installed.

So I closed it. Thumbnails of tasks are on top again like they are supposed to be. I'll keep it closed and see if the problem comes back. If it doesn't, I'll report it to Stardock.

Three days before I brought up the problem, they had already released a fixed version:

https://forums.stardock.com/499124/curs ... andidate-1

The second bullet point says, "Icon previews are no longer clipping out of UI."

So, I'm running it today and the tasklist thumbnails (or icon previews as they called it) are working just fine.

Yay!
