Hello there. I am using Nexus for quite a few years now with the exact same setup, never changed a setting.

Since some days now, I noticed a "bug".

For the apps Steam and Battlenet it appears that the apps are running, but they are definetly not. It shows like that even when I fresh re-/started my pc. Nothing appears in the task manager.

I already tried to delete and create a new element but the same bug appears again and again. Only on these two apps

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Are you sure? Now go into the Details tab of Task Manager instead of the Processes tab and look for the respective executables. Pretty sure you will find that they are still running in the background.

It is not only when I exit Steam/Battlenet, it also shows like that when I do a fresh start of my PC.

Autostart is deactivated. And the problem occurs only for a few days now, the years before everything was fine... hmm...

Thanks for the screenshots. A few more questions:

1. Can you please post a screenshot of the Dock Entry Properties dialog for the Steam shortcut on the dock?

2. What happens if you exit Nexus and then manually run it again? Do the Steam and BattleNet icons still appear with the running indicator?

3. Does this only happen with Steam and Battlenet and not with other applications?

4. What version of Windows are you running? Looks like Windows 10, am I right?

5. What happens if you launch another application from the dock? Do the running indicators for Steam and Battlenet disappear as the dock is updated to show what is currently running?

Hey, sure I'll your questions with pleasure :)

1: I am not sure what you are talking about, my english is not the very best. Do you mean this?

2: Then the exact same bug appears again. Already tried to manually exit Nexus and restart it.

3: Yes Sir, it only happens with Steam and Battlenet. BUT I figured out just a few seconds ago that the Indicator is not working for other apps. As you can see, I have a TeamSpeak 3 Shortcut in my dock. When I run TS3, it opens but the shiny Indicator dot is not there. Thats for all other apps I have in my dock. To summarize it: Steam/Battlenet always indicates as "running" although they aren't while every other app does not indicate as "running" although they are. It feels like "Running Indicator" is stucked in some way or that the app icons do not refresh themselves when I start/exit an app.

4:Yes Sir, you are right. It is Win 10

5: No Sir, like already said at "3" the Indicator is not working for any apps that are running and for Steam/Battlenet the indicator is there permanently without running the apps. That never change.

This is really weird, for the moment I also have no clue as to what might be causing this.

A few more things to try and report back:

1. Apply a different dock theme. Does it change anything regarding the running indicators?

2. Move the Steam icon in the dock into another position in the dock. Does the running indicator follow the icon?

3. What version of Nexus are you running (top right corner of About tab in Preferences)?

4. Are you running any 3rd party customization software that works by patching Window files?

5. Open Nexus Preferences, go to the Advanced tab and make a Backup of your settings.

6. In the same tab, click the Troubleshooting Options button. In the Troubleshooting Options dialog start by clicking the 'Check Service Communication' button. What does it say?

7. This is going to be a bit of work on your part, but it's worth a try: in the same dialog click on the Reset Everything, make sure 'Show indicator on shortcuts to applications that are currently running' is enabled in the Content tab, then exit Preferences by pressing OK. Now manually re-add the Steam icon (after making sure that Steam is NOT running). Is the running indicator in the Steam icon still visible?

8. You can Restore your previous settings by opening Nexus Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Restore.

1. No, that does not change anything.

2. I did, but the indicator dot is still there.

3.It says "Version 24.4"

4. I am running only "Rainmeter". Already tried to close/exit Rainmeter, but the bug still occurs.

5. I did.

6. It says:

7. Yes, after resetting everything and making a backup before resetting and re-adding Steam to the fresh/new dock, the same bug occurs again:

Is it worth a try to make backup file of my settings and do a complete re-install?

UPDATE: I created a new backupfile and put it in another directory. Then I uninstalled Nexus, downloaded it from official Winstep Website and installed it. Restored the backupfile and what should I say... I have no clue WHAT the problem was, but now it is working as it should. Indicator is not there when an app is not running and appears as soon as I start up an app.

The only little "problem" I have now is, that the icon for my active browser (opera) now shows like this:

But it should look like this: (Ignore the red circles, it is an old screenshot. Focus on the green circle.

It is not that big deal, but maybe you can help with this also :)
