For reasons I can't figure out there's no longer any task management
in NS or WS. It's been about a week since I was on the computer and
I don't remember making any changes regarding this.

I startup today and there are no task icons, nothing in the NS Task List
menu, nor in an Active Tasks WS shelf I just made for testing.

I didn't notice this immediately but I didn't do much before noticing.
My activities were:
1. After bootup I bring up ZoneAlarm client to update virus/spyware dbs.
2. Go to Microsoft Update and get one high-priority update (for IE6, a fix to fix a previous update causing my browser to crash regularly).
3. Get ready to update databases of other anti-virus/spyware proggies.
I bring up services.msc, start a service I need, click the minimize button
and it disappears. That's when I noticed no task icon so I figure maybe
I accidently hit the close button instead.
I go about my task and start Services again. I do what I do and minimize
Services, it disappears.
Was ist los? Start Services again and minimize. Gone. Alt-Tab and I see
I have three instances of Services running. That's when I realized task
management wasn't working.

So far I've checked NS and WS settings, Windows' taskbar settings
and can't find anything. NS task management has been toggled on/off
with no change. Systray icons are visible.
I've also since rebooted just in case.

Any ideas here?
Running latest, registered Xtreme on WinXP Pro.

Marc

Heh, one minute later I find the problem. Decided not to delete
the original post though. Use it for future reference. :)

Even though I checked the Task Icon Customization list I didn't
scroll far enough through the list. I found two blank entries in the list
set to "Don't Show In Tasklist". Those entries caused the task list
to always be empty.
How they got there I don't know but now I know what to check next
time this happens again.

Glad you figured it out, Mark..

The tasklist customization dialog prevents empty entries from being added, so what happened is quite weird. Anyway, I'll make sure to add some check code to the filtering itself to prevent situations like these from happening in the future! :D

Sadly, although I found the problem I haven't fixed it.
It would seem that after any reboots one or more blank entries
are found in the Task Icons list again.
So now it's a recurring thing.

Strange.

Marc

Edit: The strangeness continues. As I was adding a shelf to WS
and doing this and that the one app that was minimized disappeared.
Bringing up NextStart's prefs I now see four blank entries in the
Tasklist Icons list (three at the bottom of the list, one somewhere in
the middle).
Don't know where to start looking for the culprit.

Ah, the plot thickens!

Marc, do you know how to use the Windows Registry Editor (RegEdit32)?

If so, could you export (when you have more blank entries) the contents of

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Winstep2000\

and send it over to Winstep support?

Thanks,
