I am trying to change the image of a drawer. Using Aero LowRes I replaced the TitleA.png and TitleI.png with images the exact same size and name but it wont show them. Still showing original image.I deleted the drawer and created a new one but still no change. Do you have to clear a cache or something,Is there something I have not done.

Try switching to another theme and then switch back to Aero LowRes, or you can restart your computer, or log out then log back in.

If that doesn't work try replacing EndcapA and EndcapI. I have modified many themes and what you are doing should work. Just make sure to make a backup of the original PNG's in case something gets messed up. The hard part is guessing which PNG's to modify.

So this is what I have done so far. Copied the folder Aero LowRes and renamed it.Replaced the TitleA, Title, EndcapA, EndcapI and In the Aero LowRes.wsw file changed the theme name and bitmaps path did the same in the .nsx file. I changed the bitmaps path as it was BitmapsFolder=c:\winutil\nextstart\Themes\Aero LowRes\ which I could not find.
Does anyone have any ideas why it still is not displaying my images.

Simple. The app won't be aware of your newly modified theme until you go to 'Preferences' -> Themes Tab and select the theme and then hit 'Apply'.

Modifying an existing theme can be a veritable minefield for the inexperienced. Simple lesson - leave well alone until you know what you're doing. ;)

If you don't have a go how will you learn. It would be useful if someone could explain why a theme not loaded before with the image changed (exactly same size and name)does not show.

Did you try it without changing the theme name, the bitmaps path, and renaming the Aero LowRes folder?

I have replaced all of the images you mentioned and many others, without changing the theme name, bitmaps path, or renaming the folder, and never had a problem.

The only other image that you could try to change would be wsFullBody. I think that is the background for Gridstacks. Maybe it is used on the drawer also.

Did anything on the theme change when you applied it? I would think that the menu would have a different look based on what you have changed.

I've never modified a drawer so maybe something is different.

Maybe Jorge could comment if we promise not to blame his software when we screw it up.

I once ended up with a Gridstack that was a combination of two themes. Fortunately an uninstall/reinstall of Winstep Xtreme fixed the problem.

It's too bad the "The Thing that must not be named" never happened. If you don't know what that is Google "winstep the thing that must not be named" Just don't mention the name!!! :!: :)

"wsFullBody" essentially is the image for the Workshelf body but is also used for Drawers and GridStacks, as indeed is the complete theme.

Nope, it isn't - see above. :)

Ooh, you've done it now! We really must not even obliquely refer to it that way. :P On a more serious note, I somehow very much doubt we'll ever see it this late in the game. Given that skinning is just about as dead as a dodo, plus the huge complexity of the Winstep apps, it would seem like a mammoth effort for a dormouse return - IOW, pointless, alas.

I feel compelled to throw in my 200 quid's worth here and say that IMO, instead of rushing to add more and more features and options to Winstep apps in the period after/since the 'big changes' of around 2009 (IIRC), the focus should have been on fixing the many outstanding issues - some of which have never been addressed - on the one hand, and on the other on said "Thing...." while that was still of more manageable proportions. That would have been the time to do it. And once completed, any new features/options/applets etc. could then easily have been accommodated as they came along.

I suppose that the last, best hope might be a .pdf manual, explaining all the different config files and their settings and options, and the required GFX files. However, this could only be achieved as a community project with participation by the most experienced theme creators. Some hope of that happening, I think. :(

NEZBIT - I tired all what you said no change.
I've even uninstalled the program started it fresh. First theme change was with changed images but still displays original image which are not even in the folder. So how does it know what they look like must be picking them up from somewhere else.

I totally agree. I love Winstep Xtreme but there are still a couple of minor issues I would like to see fixed. Maybe it does too much. It has evolved quite a bit since I first tried it many years ago. Some type of manual would sure help, but you are right, the most experienced theme creators would have to be involved. I don't think that is going to happen either.

This sure is a puzzle. My final two cents (I can't afford Nexter's 200 quid), is make sure the images are in PNG format and that the spelling matches exactly. Maybe also try another theme to modify?

You could also try contacting one of the themers on WinCustomize for advice.

I'm out of ideas. Good Luck.

So this is what I found out by changing images and seeing what happens.

The Title and Endcap files are to do with Nextstart. Nx files are for the Dock. The files I need to change were wsFullBody and wsFullTab. So As I don't want a tab on the drawer or need a button to close it or open preferences I want to get rid of wsFullTabA/I/ML/MR and I think the ws Prefs.ico/wsHide.ico. You can't just delete the images as you are left with a black area(like a template).

I should also say that I am not worried about the affect this will have on the Workshelf as it will not be on show.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this is done.

Thanks
