Hello,

I have a very specific issue with Nexus Dock and I'm hoping someone here might have a solution. I've narrowed down the problem and confirmed that it's caused by Nexus

The problem:
When Nexus Dock is running, my mouse's double-click functionality on the desktop becomes erratic. It doesn't happen all the time, but very frequently, when I try to open a shortcut or a folder on the desktop with a quick double-click, the icon just gets selected instead of opening. I have to try multiple times before it finally works.

This issue only happens on the desktop while Nexus Dock is active. The double-click works perfectly fine everywhere else, including in File Explorer and other applications.

I've confirmed that this is a Nexus Dock issue, because as soon as I close the program, the problem immediately disappears, and the double-click works perfectly on the desktop every single time.

Has anyone else noticed this specific behavior? Is there a setting within Nexus Dock that causes this conflict with the Windows desktop? Any advice on how to fix this without uninstalling the program would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Are you running the latest version of Nexus?

This is a problem... to figure out what is causing an issue and fix it I need to be able to reproduce it here.

Assuming this is indeed caused by Nexus (nobody else seems to be complaining so far and I haven't experienced the issue either) try to find a pattern, a way to reproduce it 100% of the time.

It could indeed be Nexus fault, as it sometimes needs to temporarily "capture" mouse movements to know, for instance, when the pointer has left the dock - and if this "capture" is not released for some reason once that happens, the very next mouse click might be redirected to the dock instead of the actual target, resulting in something similar to what you are experiencing with the double click.

Hi Jorge,

I've just 'upgraded' to Win11 as support for Win10 is coming to an end, and have noticed a similar issue - but wasn't sure if this was due to Winstep or Displayfusion (or just Windows 11!).

Basically whenever I switch focus from an application to the desktop the first 'double-click' effectively selects the relevant desktop icon, and a second double click is required to launch the application. A single click on the desktop followed by a double click on the desktop icon performs the same way - but you can't just double-click the icon to start the application straightaway. Similarly minimising the application (e.g. this browser) and double clicking on an application (e.g. Excel) has the same effect. i.e. you have to set focus to the desktop before double-clicking works.

So it appears as if the desktop has to be selected first. This wasn't happening on Win10.

However it was a minor annoyance so I had not dug into it much - but seeing this post decided me to respond.

I have Winstep Extreme (currently running NextStart and Workshelf), and just updated to version 25.7 prior to Win11 upgrade. WIndows 11 Pro Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.5074). Displayfusion Pro 11.1.1

Thanks for the replies. I can now confirm with 100% certainty that Nexus Dock is the cause of this issue.

I've spent a couple of days troubleshooting this problem. It's been an intermittent issue for me for some time, but I mostly ignored it until it became too annoying to deal with. That's when I decided to really sit down and figure out the cause.

The issue is very easy to replicate for me:

When Nexus Dock is running, the double-click issue on my desktop is present.

The moment I close the application, the problem disappears immediately.

It's exactly as the user above described it – a shortcut or folder icon on the desktop just gets selected on a double-click, instead of opening.

I believe this might have appeared after one of the program's updates. I'm willing to help debug this if needed, so please let me know if there's any specific information you need from my side.

Thanks again for the help.

Well, with techlobo complaining of the same, this is indeed probably a problem caused by Nexus.

That is not what I meant by "replicating". You say it doesn't always happen, what I need is an action in the dock that causes the issue to happen 100% of the time when you click on the desktop right after this action, and which I can replicate here with the same results.

Anyway, I'll try to reproduce the problem here too..

Hello,

That's a good point about trying to pinpoint the exact behavior, but it's hard to define. I don't think it happens at any specific moment, because the issue is present even when the dock is hidden.

Generally, for me, as long as the dock is running, the problem occurs at what seems to be random moments.

Anyway, thank you for looking into this. Please let me know if you manage to find anything.

Best regards :)

Not complaining Jorge (as I said it is a relatively minor annoyance), just providing a second context.

I've not done any debugging so I can't be certain that it is Nexus.

May do a bit of investigation later, but it is not stopping me working.

I can reproduce the effect pretty reliably by opening an application and moving it to my secondary monitor, ensure that it has focus, then double click desktop icon on my primary monitor. Even though hovering over the icon highlights it, the first double click only leaves it selected, the second double click launches it.

However if there is an application open on the primary monitor this doesn't happen. If the application on the primary monitor (which has focus) is minimised though then the same (select, double-click) behaviour is observed.

If I place a desktop icon on my secondary monitor, have an application open on the secondary, give it focus, then double-click on the desktop icon (on the secondary) then the same issue is exhibited. Again if there is an application open on the primary, then the desktop icon on the secondary monitor can be double-clicked as normal (even if the application of the secondary monitor has focus).

In both cases the issue is avoided if you click on the desktop first and then double-click the icon.

I say 'pretty reliably' as occassionally it acts as normal - but generally it exhibits the double-click annoyance.

I quit Winstep Extreme and ran the above checks again - the issue no longer happened.

This was just a basic test though as I haven't tried doing this without DisplayFusion running - so there may be more of an interaction thing.
