I use Outlook Express on my Windows XP Media Center Edition. I tried using the email module to tell how many emails I have or to tell me when I get an email. The email module does not have an option for My server requires authentication and I need to enable that. Is there a way to do that in the settings of the module? I didn't see it and I emailed myself from another email account and the module didn't pick it up. Do you have any suggestions...

The "My server requires authentication" option is used for Outgoing mail only (i.e. to indentify the user when SENDING email), and is not used by the Email Module, which only requires INCOMING settings.

The problem probably lies elsewhere, either in the Username/Password fields, account type, port or SSL settings or even on what you expect the email module to do (the email module is to be used when you do NOT want to have your email client open at all times - if your email client is always open and constantly downloading messages, the Email Module will never detect any new messages because they have already been downloaded and deleted from the server by the client).

When you open the Email Checker Settings panel, what does it say in 'Account Info' at the bottom? What does the tooltip of the Email Checker module say?

I have a Hotmail plus account and it used to work really well. Anyway i've started using the email module to check my email(all fields are filled out correctly) however I get this status: Connection Failed.
Firewall was temp disabled for this and it works with my normal pop3 account.
Could there be a problem with the SSL?

I used Microsoft Network Monitor 3.2 to capture packets sent by the email checker and it appears as if there is a problem with the SSL side of things.

Jorge could you please take a look for me. I know that you are very busy :D

Sorry, I haven't touched that code in ages and therefore there is no reason for it to stop working suddenly.

Furthermore, I just tried the email checker with my Gmail account (which also requires a SSL connection) and it had no trouble reporting the new test message I had just sent to it.

My guess is that if there is something wrong, it will be on Hotmail's side. Have you tried other stand alone email checkers already (no idea which, if any, support SSL, sorry)?

I have configured Pocomail with the exact same settings and there is no problem there. I just hope that someone else here can vouch for it to be working. Thanks
