When I first was playing with Winstep last week, I wasn't getting unexpected sounds from any of the themes. Under preferences: Sounds and Animations, I had "Prevent themes from changing..." checked, but none of the others. This was fine.

This morning, I decided to play around with floating docks, but didn't like the effect, and set everything back to normal - but NOW I'm getting the theme sounds all the time!! I checked all options under Preferences: Sounds and Animations, but I'm still getting all the theme sounds. How do I turn these off??

How did you set everything back to normal? Was it through 'Troubleshooting Options'?

Also, just to be sure, exactly what events are triggering a sound effect?

Anyway, a screenshot of the Sounds tab in Preferences, with the 'Hide/Collapse' event selected, would probably help.

Well, the worst is the Halo theme; it has a sound when I raise the Shelf, another every time I point at any icon on it, and a *really* wierd, annoying, loud sound when the Shelf lowers back down.

As you can see from the attachment, I have selected "disable all sounds", which seems pretty unconditional to me.

I also went in after this image was taken, and turned off "beep when a task button is flashing...", that had no effect at all on the sounds.

Other themes have sounds as well, mostly related the Shelf, but sometimes attached to the Start button as well.

Oops, forgot to answer a question! I don't recall what, exactly, I did to "reset everything" previously, but just now, I opened Preferences:Advanced:Troubleshooting options, and clicked "Reset Everything". After everything reset, I went back to "Sound and Animation", and selected "Prevent themes from changing..." and "Disable all sounds", and hit Apply. I then changed back to the Halo theme, and it is still using its bizarre sounds...

Other themes are still using sounds, but none of them are as obnoxious as Halo... too bad it's such a beautiful theme visually!!

You need to check the Sounds tab on *WorkShelf* Preferences.

Winstep Xtreme is a suite of independent applications, the two main components being WorkShelf and NextSTART. Each application has its own set of Preferences.
