Newbie question of the day.

I had it right at one time but I've blown it.

What I want:

Windows taskbar at the bottom. Shelf (Control Panel, Desktop, Main, etc.) immediately above it.

What I have:

Windows taskbar at the bottom. Shelf (Control Panel, Desktop, Main, etc.) above but there's a gap so not belly to butt.

Thanks

Have you tried re-starting Winstep Xtreme to see if the gap between the NextSTART taskbar and the Shelf goes away? If so, have you tried a different theme (some theme authors have bitmaps that use a large gap for a drop shadow when the Shelf is fully expanded - this gap should disappear when the Shelf is collapsed, however).

Attached is a current graphic for what's desired (without the gap).

The NextSTART taskbar is where everything is where it belongs.

When I reboot or shutdown, when Winstep starts the NextSTART toolbar is atop the Windows Taskbar or there is a gap between the two. That leads me to think I have something checked, or not, that shouldn't be.

If I pull the saved into action, that's wrong also.

Can you also post a screenshot of what it looks like when it's 'wrong'?

Thanks,

I suppose I could. Do I really want to? Not particularly since it's how it's supposed to be right now. I'd really hate to screw it up.

Imagination time.

Move the two apart so you can put your finger between them.

Does that work for you?

You would understand the reason I asked you for a picture if you were on this side of the fence. :D

Sometimes users accidentally induce you into error by not explaining things correctly, using the wrong terms (for instance, you mention 'Windows taskbar' in your first post, but what I see in your screenshot is the *NextSTART* taskbar), or missing out on critical details. As a result, you can end up wasting a lot of time chasing red herrings.

A picture, on the other hand, is worth a thousand words and enables me to see, at a glance, exactly what the user is complaining about. :D

Anyway, if it happens again, see if opening WorkShelf Preferences and immediately clicking Ok fixes the gap.

Point made - yours. Graphic included.

What the yellow arrow is pointing to at the bottom is the NextSTART toolbar?

The one immediately above it (Control Panel, Desktop, Main, Recent, etc.) is the Workshelf? It is these two, I want side-by-side.

Windows Taskbar is overlapped (under) by the NextSTART bar or I believe it is.

Please name the one at the very top which starts with Nexus. It'd be NeXus, correct?

Hope that helps more. :)

NextSTART taskbar.

Shelf.

WorkShelf is the name of the application - it manages the Shelf, docks, and desktop modules. NextSTART manages the NextSTART taskbar, skinnable configurable menus, and hotspots.

It's actually hidden.

You can call it a Nexus dock, but the important word here is *dock*.

Here, read THIS, it explains the relation between the different Winstep products and will probably help you to understand better what is going on. :-)

Ooooh! I'm so smart now.

Seriously, thanks much. I hate being a newby.

Winstep is definitely worth the moments of agony though.

Trying to convince my friends, it's not just eye candy.

Thanks for the help. Hope somebody else gets some benefit as well.

i've learned with friends not to bother. let them think it's eye candy. once they see the time it takes them to do the same task as me then they realize it's not just eye candy.

Word from the other side of Mt Hood.

Eh, but Jorge needs the publicity.

Cheers from the high desert.
