Yeah, well, as the title says, I've got a problem with the hover and click effects not playing in the docks and shelf.
When I say "not playing", I mean, they *start* showing, but they freeze on the first frame. If the cursor moves to another icon, then the effect of the first icon moves to the second frame, and the newly hovered icon has effect frame #1. If the cursor moves to a third icon, then... yup, the new icon has frame #1, the second hovered icon moves to effect frame #2 and the first hovered icon goes to effect frame #3. And so on.
However, if there are animated icons in the shelf/dock, then ALL effects play normally, as long as there's an effect being played on an animated icon. When the effect of the animated icon finishes, the rest of the effects on all other non-animated icons freeze.
Now, I have to point out that sometimes, after a restart, it works nicely, until a certain something happens. I don't know what that something is, but something changes and... no more fluid effects.
I also have to point out that I've uninstalled and reinstalled Winstep, and I also reset all settings, and I've tried various themes. Nothing changes. Once the effects stop playing, that's it, they won't play anymore.
It's like, Winstep's internal timer stops generating frame-update alerts and just... waits for a new "hover" or "animated icon frame change" event.
Any ideas?

...and surely enough, as I was testing the camera, Workshelf crashes and after restart, works without a problem. For now.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll start acting up again soon, so I'll post a vid.
I just hope Jorge is around...

skagon, lmfao, that's one hell of a way to fix it. my vote would be something eating too many resources. when winstep went south on you it took the other process with it would be my bet. i'll have nexus hang for a few seconds from time to time, when i finally track down what's going on it's usually because another program is hogging my memory.

Okay. Just tried to change the launch effect and, while it was working perfectly before, now it's back to its problematic self. So, here are the vids:

Normal operation: normal operation
Problematic: probmelatic operation

Enjoy!

Notice how the effects start playing, not only when an animated icon is hovered, but also how even hovering the static icon right *next* to the animated icons gets the effects going!
Also, around the end, the computer delays slightly, getting the free space info for a drive, in order to show the balloon, and that also gets the effect going for a split second!

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any porn visible in the videos. It's not there. If you see it, it's your mind producing side-effects on reality, not me.
Cheers.

from what i'm seeing it looks like something is causing you effects to be delayed. so maybe i was onto something about your mem usage.

p.s. the vid's were both pg, suitable for MOST audiences.

Uhm, you're wrong in one thing: the effects are not *delayed*. They're FROZEN. If I don't move the mouse, they won't do a thing, no matter how long you wait.
Incidentally, it's happened even after a restart with no programmes loaded, on a 16GB RAM 64-bit system with 8 (real) cores.

...and I'm glad about the PG... surely can't be "Disney" level... (even though some Disney flicks have been proven to contain X-rated stuff too) :P

ok at least one thing eliminated. try changing the effect you're using and see what you get.

yeah they say if you really pay attention watching snow white you'll be shocked.

Changing the effect has no... ehm... effect. :)
Actually, after the crash and restart of Workshelf, changing the "launch" effect was what triggered the problem to reappear.
Once it's manifested itself, the problem won't go away. I changed the hover and launch effects, to no avail. I even changed themes. No change. I even re-set Workshelf to its "factory" settings. Nothing.

You know, it's like, the effects are "encoded" in some fashion and the codec is freezing for some reason. Like, having the effects in AVI and then the AVI codec not working. I don't know how Workshelf works internally, but I find it rather improbable that Jorge is creating encoded video strips of the effects in runtime and then playing them back when needed. To me it's more like, some timer event handler is getting screwed up.

...and don't get me started with "Who framed Roger Rabbit"... :P

looks like you covered just about everything i could think of. the only thing left to do in my book is backup you settings again, uninstall, restart, and reinstall.

Done that too. Actually, I got Revo Uninstaller to look for and delete any and all references in the registry too. Reinstalled. Even immediately after installation (and before restoring my settings), the effects were freezing.
I'm at a loss here. The only thing would be some "bug logging" mechanism that may (and should) exist in Workshelf, to log EVERYTHING and check out what's bothering Winstep.

...had no idea they were remaking the Black Hole! I have to say, the original is damn good, apart from a few cheesieties here and there -- after all, it was the late '70s and it *was* Disney. I just hope they don't f&ck it up like Star Trek, with all the f&cking lens flares and the frantic unstable camera takes and the god-damn-love story between Uhura and f&cking Spock!!!
I just hope they respect the -- already -- very good story and just add some cool modern effects, and remove the silly things from Disney, like the cutesy robots.
Cheers for the heads-up, mate!
