The sun stays out until 8:00-9:00 PM but the sun sets here at 4:30 PM. Not a big deal but can I do something to fix this? Thanks.

Nothing you can do. The threshold for day/night time is fixed internally.

However, I just had a look at the code and some of the weather feeds (more specifically Yahoo and Weather.com; unfortunately the MSN feed does not) also provide sunrise and sunset times. I'll try using those wherever possible in the next release.

I didn't explain that too well. Sorry. I was referring to the icon pic showing next to the temperature. Shouldn't that change to "moon" at sunset? Thanks.

I understood what you meant.

The problem is that computers are not too good at looking outside and seeing if it's still night time or the sun is up already, are they?

So, the information on when the sun rises and when it sets must come from somewhere, otherwise you can only generalize and say something like 'ok, let's say that the sun is up every day at 7 AM and goes down every day at 7:30 PM'. That's what was happening. Unfortunately, as we know, the time the sun sets changes every day, and the discrepancy can be huge when comparing Winter vs. Summer. Not to mention the hour added by DST.

Anyway, I fixed this issue for next release provided your weather feed comes either from Weather.com or Yahoo.

I will soon. Right now we're snowing and the sun isn't going to come out for awhile.

Snow gone - now it's just cold - below zero wind chills - but it works now! Thank you, Sir.

Tonight I have the sun again. I'll keep monitoring it but I don't know what changed.

I *WAS* going to write the following:

"Could be one of two things: either the weather information was retrieved from MSN this time (which does not provide sunrise/sunset times) instead of Weather.com because the latter was down - and you can check this out my mousing over the weather icon, the balloon tooltip will tell you the source of the weather info - OR (more likely) that information was not provided this time."

And then I moused over my weather module and it told me weather info had been retrieved from MSN instead of Weather.com as would be usual. This can only mean Weather.com is down or has blocked access to their feed again.

I'm going to look into this right now, but at this point all I can say is: thank God for all the redundancy I built in regarding the Weather module feed, or we would all be looking at an N/A blank weather icon right now.

I just checked it and the Weather.com feed is also working properly now - must have been a temporary glitch on their servers, which made Winstep temporarily switch to an alternate feed (in this case, MSN. Yahoo is the last resort).
