No, it won't, but that way if that fixes the problem we will never know what was causing it in the first place.

On the other hand, I kind of run out of ideas too, so...

Nope unfortunately "restoring" my computer didn't fix the problem. My computer just finished restoring. Same problem. The clock doesn't tick every second and it will not say the time every minute unfortunately. I don't mind working together to see if we could find a solution.

I haven't tried the uninstall reinstall yet. I won't do it unless you give me the okay. We'll see if we can solve it without doing so first.

Still have to run some checks on the other sound effects, BUT .....

Finally figured it out for the clock. There was ONE other tab that we both overlooked. Maybe restore helped, but I am quite certainly it is this one tab that was the culprit .... the Workshelf: Modules: "MORE OPTION" tab.

The "CLOCK SETTINGS" tab plays apart in when the time is spoken, but the key is it doesn't AFFECT whether the time will be announced. It was under the "workshelf preference: modules: "more option" tab all along.

Now to find out the other sound effects...

Immediately unckecking "disable sound for this module" for the clock, I could finally hear the time announced every single minute.

Workshelf preference: Modules: "MORE OPTION" The problem is that this option was not available when right clicking on the clock. This tab is only found when going through the workshelf preference. WHEW :P :D :) :o
Image

Workshelf preference: Modules: "CLOCK SETTINGS" The thing is this was the only tab available when directly right clicking on the clock.

Workshelf preference: Sound: "disable all sound and voices. Just to complete the big picture. This particular area, even if unchecked (allowing sound and voices to be active), if box is checked for "disable sound for this module" under Workshelf preference: Modules: "CLOCK SETTINGS", the time will not be announced.

I do have one request if possible. More options to when the time is announced. Currently it's the following:
NEVER
Every 15 minute
Every 30 minute
Every hour

Can we get
5 minutes before the hour
10 minutes before the hour
15 minutes before the hour

Reason: If I am looking forward to a TV show at 8:00 PM, I would like to get an announcement at 5 minutes before the hour.

Doh. Completely forgot about that too lol

This highlights one of the things I have been struggling with: some settings that really should be together are instead spread all over the place. And then things like this happen.

Furthermore those particular settings should actually be top-level and not buried in a secondary dialog. If you open the Properties panel for the dock (right click any dock item -> Nexus -> Dock Properties) you will see that in the Dock Contents tab they are in fact exposed top-level. But alas, at the time there was no space for them in the main Modules tab of WorkShelf Preferences, so there - and because of this - they ended up getting buried in a secondary dialog.

This said, I think now that I re-organized that tab better I can actually make space for them again.

Why not use those brand new clock alarms for this instead?

You are right about that; the alarm is definitely handy .... Devil's advocate for a second... :D

What if someone is using the time announcement for an exercise session in their living room. Having the clock announce every (enter time, minute, second, etc) allows person to focus on his/her exercise. (ex. how many pullups can you do in 20 seconds, or 17 seconds, or 25 seconds, etc.) :D

Maybe create some type of timer for your next update? or simply allow the clock to speak "more often" :D

Timers, to-do lists, calendars... sigh. So much to add lol

Anyway, changed the Modules tab in WorkShelf Preferences so the sound and animation settings are now top-level.

One thing I'm currently ogling is adding a 'CD Control' internal command, as it shouldn't take too long. Serves two useful purposes: visually it would allow you to know at a glance when media is inserted into the drive (and what kind of media it is, if CD-ROM, CD-R, DVD, etc...) which I think is useful given the many times I forget that a CD is currently inserted into the drive. Second, it would allow you to quickly eject/insert the media by clicking on the icon.

What do you think?

More stuff... you betcha. Always a good thing.

Don't forget to also include Blu Ray as well including HD-DVD. I know HD-DVD lost out on the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD war, but some people actually still have HD-DVD. That also reminds me I have to get a replacement for my LG-Blu Ray drive that just kicked the bucket.

One thing I would love (maybe it's already a feature in xtreme that I have no clue where to find) is have an option for modules to fade into view when your mouse cursor goes over it. I'll get a video up of what I'm talking about later.

Modules would be initially hidden. But when your mouse rolls over them, they magically appear.

Why? To keep the desktop looking clean. And this would be obviously an option for each module depending on the user.

Lol. Check again that clock panel where you found the sound and animation options. See that 'Make module opaque on mouseover' option at the bottom? Combine that with the transparency slider to get what you want.

Sweet :) :D :) :o 8) Perfect. Now to put more Widg.... I mean Modules on the desktop.

... trying something .... transparency is at 100% .... is there a way to make the widget completely disappear, because I can still faintly make it out.

Alas, a 100% transparent module/window is not able to detect when the mouse pointer is moving over it (in order to turn opaque again), so no can do.

You have an alternative, which is to use the 'Show/Hide Desktop Modules' internal command. This will make all the modules fade in and out of view when you click it. You can even assign a keyboard shortcut to it if you want.

The reason I ask is because rainmeter allows their widget/skins to be completely 100% transaparent and with a mouseover, it appears. When the mouse leaves, the widget/skin completely disappears leaving no trace that it was ever there. Rainmeter is also open source. I'll look into the other options from Winstep, but something maybe to consider in the future? Possibly?

Can't it be programmed when the object "takes up space" (despite being fully transparent) when the mouse enters any part of the "space" it activates the object to show? I don't program, so I may not know what I'm talking about. :)

... because the strange thing is that it's actually 100% transparent when I hit "apply" and then "ok". The clock is 100% completely transparent. After I roll over my mouse, the clock reveals itself but then disappear and still leaves a faint image on screen.

Oh yeah is there a volume controller for the time/clock announcement?

Yeah, you can know if the mouse pointer is over the module by making the module periodically monitor the position of the mouse pointer whenever the module is transparent (this is already not that good because it means you have to use a timer and use up CPU time to poll the position of the pointer) but this has a fatal flaw: you can't easily know if the module is covered, partially or totally, by another window (in which case it should not turn opaque).

I'll look into this. I already detected something odd with the module sometimes not fading out and staying opaque even though the mouse pointer is already not over it.

Already figured out why this was happening and fixed it, thanks.

No.
