Hi Jorge

Would love to see a separator of the style used on many toolbars - ie taking up only a half space, with a visible "3D bar". EXTRA nice would be the ability to create or remove that separator by "bumping" an icon to the right. Not sure what other software has this in their toolbar customize, but two I use are Directory Opus and good old Eudora. If all else fails, the option of a separator with a bar in it instead of just a blank space would be okay too.

Did I post this before? Probably. :) I know I've been thinking about it ever since getting Winstep!

Hey Robin! :D

I think I would need a screenshot to understand exactly what you mean.

As for 'half-width' separators, there are several reasons why this can't happen, one of them being that separators can be customized with a normal icon and also 'double up' as sub-dock place holders.

Hi Jorge

I remember now that I DID post about this before - and you told me that! :)
Quote:

Hmmm ... Shelf Entry Properties for a Separator doesn't give me the option to choose an icon. Everything below "Item Separator" is currently greyed out. ??

Unfortunately I can't post any screenshots as my ##%% server isn't allowing me to upload anything at the moment. But I think I can explain it better.

In Customize mode, Eudora and Directory Opus (for example) allow you to nudge an icon to either create or remove a 3D separator line, which means you can easily group your icons - but the nudge thing is just a nice capability, not an essential. Looking at their toolbars, these 3D separator lines are NOT in fact half spaces, as I thought and said, thus confusing the issue. They are actually the same as the 3D Frame lines AROUND the icons on a Winstep shelf. Currently, in Winstep, you can only choose to put the 3D frames around EVERY icon on the shelf. What I'd like is to be able to do is to GROUP icons within a 3D frame, so that the frame goes around the group, not each icon. Hope I am explaining that so you can see what I mean. To put it another way, the left/right sides of the 3D frames would in effect become separators and no additional space for separators as they now exist would be needed at all.

So, in a nutshell, would it be possible to add the option of grouping icons within a 3D frame?

Dammit, *I* know what I mean! :)

Robin

One wish for Xtreme that's probably an awful lot of work: per-pixel addressing of window frames a la Stardock Windowblinds.

I can't use Windowblinds because it kills Roboform in Firefox. I found this out by trying the free demo version. The ability to freely color and texture window frames and Explorer window backgrounds is awesome. If Xtreme could do that, I think sales would really take off.

1) Add an auto scan function to built shelf automatically (search all programs came from any local drive or certain folders/drives, list it and select those that we want to include into our shelf)

2) Add a sorting option into Shelf, (select the tab, right click on it and choose "auto sort".

Thanks for this very good program !

Hi Jorge,

Thanks again for the awesomeness that is Winstep. Anytime I go somewhere and have to use a "standard" windows UI now it drive me nuts.

Ironically I have yet to actually use the shelf. Obviously I need to play and re-jigger some more :)

But the reason I'm writing to add to the wish list - how about the ability to add additional modules of the same type?

For instance maybe I want to show 2 or 3 weather modules (for different cities), or multiple email checkers for different accounts.

Whatchu think?

John

This will eventually be added. For instance, one of the new modules on the to-do list is a kind of hard disk monitor (SMART temperature monitoring, read/write stats, etc...). This would imply an individual module for each hard disk.

The problem is that to support this type of functionality the basic internal structure of the modules will have to be changed. This means some hard work.

On the other hand, once it's done for one module, it will apply to all modules. This means you will be able to monitor different network adapters at the same time, display different clocks for different time zones, etc...

my list

1. the ability to be able to have workshelf on the left or right side of the monitor, instead of just the top or bottom.
2. the ability to rightclick a workshelf tab that is either a drive or folder and open containing folder.
3. a sticky notes module that will change colors to match the theme you are running.
4. .mkv support in workshelf.
5. one of the things i hate about windows 7 is the fact that if you turn off the navigation pane in one folder it is universal, whereas in xp and vista it was folder by folder. i would like to see in workself something like stardocks fences, but with ability to close them down to the shelf when they are not being used. so basically what you would have is the ability to point at a drive or folder for a tab, or click on this feature and tell it what drive or folder you want it to represent and open.

this pretty much covers what i would like to see added to winstep.

I've been using Nexus dock for a few weeks now, and it's much more polished than Object Dock which I was using before. One thing I miss though is the replacement of launch icons with taskbar icons - I would like Nexus to work like the W7 task bar, ie to have an icon I use to launch an app, which is then replaced by a running icon. Otherwise I just have space wasted with an icon I am not going to use whilst the app is running.

Otherwise it's an excellent app, well done.

this is fine as long as it can be toggled off for those of us that don't want it. as for running like the win 7 taskbar that is what nextstart is for.

My wish list item is to have different dock location/attachment settings per screen resolution.

case:

My work desktop is accessed in 3 ways, direct, via remote in by laptop, via remote in by home desktop. Each of these 3 ways has a different screen resolution.

Direct - 3 monitors. I have docks on 2 of those 3.
Remoting in - 1 monitor. The docks that are on the left side of #2 would now be better placed onto the right side of #1.

Alrighty, I've just been using Nexus for a day or so, and I already have several suggestions.
Firstly, let me say that all I wanted was some sort of auto-hide toolbar at the top of the screen, that shows my (numerous) drives -- up util Vista, I could have Windows do that, by dragging a toolbar (or the "My Computer" icon) to the top edge. Windows 7 doesn't allow that, though, so I got to Nexus because it's the only one that I know of, that can show the drives.
Now on to the suggestions.

First, it would be nice to have the ability to choose custom icons for each type of drive (fixed, removable, network, cdrom) -- or even individual drives.

Second, you could add an overlay usage bar (on, above or below the drive icon) indicating used space vs total size, preferably with some sort of colour customisation (i.e. colour per percentage range like, green for 0-70%, yellow for 71-90% and red for 91-100%, or a background image that gets rendered as a bar, etc.).

Third, the ability to customise each drive's text, maybe with some sort of special string compilation (i.e. $1 is volume name, $2 is drive letter, $3 is total space, $4 is used space etc. so the user-defined string could be "-$2- $1 ($4/$3)" or something).

Fourth, the ability to show the icons centred on the shelf (and maybe right too), instead of always left (especially when the shelf is spanning the full screen width).

Fifth, and perhaps most important, update the drives more frequently than "on show". See, if I connect a drive while the shelf is open, the new drive does not show. I have to let the shelf hide and then show it again, to see the new drive. It would be better if it just showed (and disappeared on disconnection) on-the-fly.

Sixth, the ability to change tabs of the shelf using the left-right scroll-wheel 'clicks'. Many mice nowadays have the left-right wheel facility, so it would be nice to use it to shift through tabs without moving the mouse to click the tab title.

Seventh, the ability to hide the tab bar completely, if there's only one tab on the shelf.

Eighth, when the shelf shows, it's 'stealing' focus from the active program. I'd like it to return focus to the same program, if no icons are clicked (i.e. in the case where it's activated by accident).

Ninth, the ability to change the position of each drive's icon... and/or sort them according to some criteria (i.e. free space, drive letter, alphabetically per volume name etc.).

Tenth, the ability to show two tabs at once, if there is enough space. For example, a shelf that spans the screen width, can have the "drives" tab to the left and another tab with some shortcuts to the right.

Okay, that's it for now. If I have any more bright ideas, I'll let you know.
By the way, in the beginning, I was just thinking of asking you for a stripped down version of Nexus, just showing the drives. Then I noticed how low the memory usage is, and that it has minimal impact on CPU usage as well, that I realised it wouldn't have much difference anyhow, so... why not have the full thing, and the ability to have all the extras.
So... kudos for a programme well made, mate! Very nice job!

Oh, one last thing: could you also add a mouse-over effect with just a simple outline glow, or a radial glow behind the icon? Just a plain fade-in/fade-out... thanks! ;)

P.S. Would you like a Greek translation?

Hi again, long time no post.

I just bought nexus extreme after a long period of no desktop customizing. I know, shame on me.

Nexus seems to be the fastest developed and most awesome of the dock apps - so i feel good about supporting the developer.

Now, my requests - well, they are actually really very simple.

1: Mouseover thumbnail previews for group tasks...
Currently, they are great but could be better. I would like to be able to skin the mouseover task previews in some way. Additionally, I would really like to be able to set the time before mouseover thumbnail previews show up. Specifically, I would like the previews to be instant, so would like a setting to change to that.

2: Function for click a task group...
To me, these seems a bit disjointed. The little menulist that pops up is kinda disjointed with the rest of the look and feel of the whole interface. Perhaps have the option to change this to display the last active window in the group instead, or even just popup the group thumnail preview.

3: Task text labels
At the moment, I have my nexus dock setup to be a sidebar with tiles to look like a windows phone 7 interface. I currently have to make custom icons with the task text built in, and have to disable the task text labels to get the look I want.
I would like to instead have the option to have something like:
- Task labels ALWAYS ON: This would show the task labels inside the dock, over the icon. Also, we would need the option to position the labels where we want (bottom center, bottom left, bottom right, top left, top center, top right).

Thats all for now. Simple requests that would make me a happy chap, and would allow a full windows phone 7 style taskbar environment :D

-Ash
