plino all i can think of is since it's a rare occasion that people extract dvd's that way anymore, that vlc removed the file association from the selection list you see but did not fix vlc so it would not hijack the association. the only time i use vlc is when i actually run into a video i can't open in anything else. some videos will not go fullscreen in vlc no matter what you do.

ChuckysChild, that does make sense. TBH I rarely use VLC. MPCHC handles most of my files.
