Love the program but when my desktop is empty and I hover the mouse pointer over a dock at the top edge of the screen (in auto hide mode) then I retreat and left click on an empty area of my desktop and I then proceed to hover the mouse pointer over another dock located on the side of the screen, the previous dock will also automatically pop into view, thus creating a dual apparition of docks rather than just only one being opened at a time.
We have a dual apparition of previously hovered over docks.
This dual instance action going on here is a very annoying problem.
Could you please help me fix it ?!

My PC Specs:
Fresh install Windows 10 Professional x64 (Paid license)
Winstep Nexus Ultimate v.16.6 (Paid license)
Motherboard ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition (X79-E)
BIOS 0801 (Latest)

Gracias!

Any idea why my Shelf icons sometimes load with a question mark?
Any settings I need to change to prevent this?

Hi!

Unfortunately I'm currently out of the office and wont be back till Monday.

One thing regarding your second post though: more obvious to me is that question mark icon at the top left corner of the Shelf where no icon should be. Is there any way (steps to) reproduce this issue?

Same thing happens to every other Shelf and Theme.
This problem happens only to my DRIVES Tab where all my storage drives are mapped.
Seems the program is unable to remember or refresh the drive icons so they appear corrupted at startup.
Sometimes they do load up properly but immediate turn into question marks.
I have done a Reset Everything from the Troubleshooting Options window and started again from scratch.
With the freshly reset parameters and a clean Shelf installation I hover over the dock, once, twice, three times and then BAM! they appear corrupted.
If I step from the corrupted Drives Shelf Tab to another tab and comeback.
The icons are then shown adequately, until the next time the Shelf is activated.
I have a fresh Windows install. Nexus Ultimate latest version. Problem still persists. Need a fix!

That being the Drives tab in the Shelf actually rings a bell: there were some recent changes to how the icons in the Shelf are cached and I remember the Drives tab being 'special' in relation to that, since drive icons have to be 'refreshed' when you insert different media, etc...

That probably got 'broken' with the recent changes.

As I said, however, I will only be able to really look at this when I get back.

Is there any way in which we can stop the HDD hard drives from spinning up every time I click on a Shelf Tab?
Gracias Jorge! Please do. I'll be waiting here ^_^

Ok, we seem to have three different issues here, and things are getting a bit confusing. :)

I need to be able to reproduce this here, so I need to understand exactly what is happening before I can come up with a fix.

Are you saying this happens if you launch WorkShelf and immediately click on the Drives tab?

Perhaps this is related to the above?

First thing you need to understand: if anything on the currently active Shelf tab (e.g.; a shortcut on the Shelf or even an icon) makes a reference to a drive that is currently not spinning, and the Shelf needs to get or refresh information regarding that something, then the drive will spin up.

Retrieving icons or thumbnails for shortcuts in a Shelf is a slow process because those images must be retrieved from the hard disk the first time around. That is why the Shelf then caches those icons in memory.

You can see this happening with the thumbnails in the Themes tab in the Shelf, for instance. The first time you access that tab you can see the thumbnails being rendered one by one (rendering document thumbnails is even slower than retrieving icons for the first time). The second time you go to the Themes tab, however, those thumbnails appear instantly. This is because they have been cached in memory after being rendered for the first time.

Sometimes, however, there are system wide changes that require the Shelf to discard those cached icon images, because some of those images may no longer reflect the true state of that object.

For instance, when drives are added or removed and the currently selected tab in the Shelf is a Drives tab, the Shelf currently deletes the icon cache for *all* tabs (I just changed this for next version so only the cached icons for that tab are deleted now) *and* refreshes the contents of the tab. The former is done so any changed icon images are refreshed as well, and the latter so the Drives tab reflects any removed or added drives.

However, deleting the icon cache also means icons need to be retrieved from their original source again. If that original source is a disk that is currently not spinning, it will need to spin up again when necessary.

Does this also happen if you have, say, a calculator window visible on the desktop?
