I was editing a new theme in 9.5 and on apply, suddenly the start button ceased to function and a hotspot appeared in the top left corner.
I went through all the settings and the hotspot was off. I shut it down, opened 16.9 and same, hotspots disabled.
I rebooted - same problem.
Went through the whole process one tab in the menus and advance at a time.
I must have done something or the update 30mins earlier did... so I uninstalled completely after copying my themes to another location because reset to defaults also failed.

Reboot an bingo everything back.

Is there a setting or a theme setting that does this? I figure something possibly in the 9.5 theme builder does?

Sincerely, no idea. To make the themes you're working with a version that was released back in 2009, my memory regarding code changes does not stretch that far eheh

Even though I always try to make new releases as backwards-compatible as possible, the fact is that there is a 7 year gap between v16.9 and v9.5.

What you should do is set things up as you want them in v16.9, then make a backup of your settings. Don't forget to do this for both WorkShelf and NextSTART, since they're individual applications.

If something later goes awry for whatever reason, restoring the backups should solve the problem.

Also, keep in mind that the Start Button in the NextSTART taskbar *is a hotspot* too. If you disable or change that hotspot, it might stop working.

Thanks Jorge - I must note that what I failed to mention trying to restore is that I did a bacjup and restored and that did not work. You know some of the earlier themes like Chrotx by Valhalla with only a hotspot button? That's pretty much what happened.
Only nothing was enabled in either the theme settings or the builder which would indicate it was enabled. It was however interesting to see my hotspot button and the workshelf on the same desktop, though it was not desired
