Hi All, I'm a new user and have spent a while sorting my setup. One question I wanted to ask is if there is a way to protect the space for Docks in the same way as you can reserve space for Hotspots in nextStart, so that windows don't overlap the dock when sizing them etc.

Currently I have it setup so the dock is always on top. I tried using the ability in nextStart but it shifted the dock out of the reserved zone and the positioning negative offset was not big enough to push it down into the zone so I have no idea if that would have worked even if I had achieved it.

Any ideas?

In the Position tab of the Dock Properties dialog simply enable the "Prevent maximized windows from overlapping this dock".

If alternatively you want to use the reserve screen space feature in NextSTART then in the same tab you must disable "Respect space reserved by other dock, toolbars and screen objects".

I'm curious - would a User Guide have helped you?

With the "so little time" comment, doubtful... Sometimes the problem is actually finding the information in the User Guide.

You know, this is where LLMs actually shine. You can feed them an entire User Guide and then ask them in natural language how to do something. They'll home in on the answer.

Anyway, I've been "playing" with the User Guide recently... using the HMTL version, I was able to get ChatGPT to implement a light mode/dark mode switch for the User Guide, as well as a lateral "always on" table of contents... The former feature (on the fly dark + light modes) can only be done when using HMTL, so I'm not sure what format I should use for the UG: keep it HTML, or convert it to Word/PDF.

Didn't make changes to the actual written content yet, but have been taking new screenshots of all the settings dialogs... there are so many that this is what made me realize what a mammoth task bringing the UG to the 21st century will be.

An LLM looking at the info would be good. Often the challenge with user manuals is if you don't know what something is called you often can't find it. An LLM might interpret your meaning rather than what you asked for and point you in the right direction.

In this case I was looking for options similar to the ones in nextStart simply because I had found them there first so I made an assumption they might be similar and thus overlooked a checkbox.

I guess this is why it gets more and more common to implement search in settings for things like windows and android. Even then I was trying to turn something off on my android phone but could not find it because I did not know what they call it ;-)
