 Post subject: can't hide icons

after installing WSE i was still able to hide/unhide desktop icons... now i can't. that wasn't a problem because the last time it worked, i hid them. now that i "reset everything in troubleshooting" the icons are in unhide mode and all over my desktop.
also i was able to change wallpaper(after install) and also, now i can't. i'm only able to change wallpaper to what microsoft has in there.
and even if i shut down nextstart and workshelf i still can't change above what has changed???

Are you running Windows 7 and did you enable the desktop wallpaper slideshow or whatever it's called?

i'm sorry...
WinXP

as i said" it was working(hide/unhide icons, changing wallpaper) 'after' WS was installed" but suddingly stopped.

Exactly what happens when you right click the Shelf's left mini-tab and select 'Hide Desktop Icons'?

Also, if what you mean is that changing themes does not change your wallpaper, open WorkShelf Preferences, go to the Themes tab, click on the Advanced button (assuming you are running WSX 10.1, 'Theme Options' otherwise) and see if you have locked the Wallpaper (which prevents themes from changing your current wallpaper).

there you go... damn, i right and left clicked on everything... but that :oops: ... also, now i found, in prefs, on general tab, hide DT icons at startup. it's funny how "you can never find something when you're looking for it"

OK... what about wallpaper... i just converted a jpg to bmp and it worked... why is it not taking jpg anymore? that has to be active desktop settings, but the web tab is not in the display settings anymore(...display settings-->desktop-->customize desktop-->web tab).
most of the pictures the authors' use are great, some are cheesy. but either way i still want control to choose what i want.
