I have a hot key bound to activate my nexus dock, set using the advanced button under the "position and behavior" tab of the dock properties. It works well, however after a few days for some reason the hotkey stops working and I have to restart the dock for it to work again. I have nexus dock installed on both a Vista and Win 7 system and it happens on both.

It always works fine for awhile but inevitably it just stops, no idea why. Anyway to fix this issue? This feature is the only reason I use Nexus dock over all the others. Amazing program otherwise.

No it does not, only restarting the program.

Still working fine here (although I did have to reboot in the mean time for unrelated reasons).

Try also the following: attach a keyboard shortcut to one of your dock items - that way we'll be able to know if the failure of one also implies the failure of the other.

Right-click one of the icons on the dock, go to dock item properties, there is a line called "Hotkey"

Ok, now press CTRL+F11, which should bring up Preferences. Does that work?

Ok, that narrows it down, thanks. You're not running a full screen application when pressing those keys, are you?

Assuming you are not (Nexus automatically disables a lot of its functionality when it detects a full screen app, like a game, is running, in order not to interfere with it), see if you can remember the last dialog in Nexus you opened before the keys stopped working.

Ok, finaly happened to me. What a PITA, there is indeed nothing you can do other than restart the application.

I'm pretty sure I know why it's happening, but I haven't been able to pin point what causes it. Let me see if I can explain:

There are two situations in which the application will deliberately stop responding to hotkeys: when you're running a full screen application like a game, so it doesn't interfere with it, and when you invoke a 'modal' dialog.

A 'modal' dialog is usually a settings dialog where the whole application stops responding to mouse and keyboard events until the user dismisses that dialog, because what happens next depends on the user input (but the application itself is still working, it's just that windows other than the modal dialog currently on top stop responding to user input).

Since poping a non-modal dialog or window when the application is in such a state (as in a response to a hot key) would result in an error, a flag is set to prevent this from happening.

Because modal dialogs can be nested, a counter is also associated with this flag. When the counter (i.e.; number of modal dialogs open on top of each other) reaches 0, the flag is cleared.

Apparently at some point that flag is being set but not cleared, which makes the application ignore hot keys and even edge bumps with the mouse pointer from then on.

Seems like one of the application's dialogs is increasing the modal counter but then fails to decrease it for some reason! Now finding out which one it is, that's the difficult part.

Great that you found the cause, though I have no idea what you are talking about. Is there anything more I can do for you or do I just need to wait until a solution is found? Is there any type of workaround or anything I can stop doing to prevent this from happening?
