Did you re-install Windows or just Winstep?

Do you see the proper icons or question mark icons?

What happens if you run Nexus/WorkShelf with Admin rights?

thanks, Jorge

Ive reinstalled Winstep ... and got the product registered.

Opened the backup file, icons show no question mark but give the above error.

What can I do too ensure that this dock/shelf have admin rights ??

Thats got to be it.

You don't want to run Xtreme permanently with admin privileges, since the Windows UIPI (User Interface Privilege Isolation) would then prevent drag & drop from working properly. I meant that as a test.

So, exit Winstep Xtreme, go to C:\Program Files\Winstep\ (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\ if you are running a 64 bit version of Windows), right click on WorkShelf.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'. You will get a warning from WorkShelf about running with high privileges but disregard the warning. Now try running the icons again. Do you get the same error?

Now exit WorkShelf and run Xtreme normally.

What happens if you drag an application from Explorer to the dock? Will that open properly?

What is displayed when you right click one of the problem shortcuts in the dock and select 'Dock Entry Properties'? Is the icon correct? Is the path to the file correct?

OK,

I can drag items into the shelf.

I setup a new shelf using the same program links (I only have 6), after I reinstalled.

Doesnt work, thinking that something my firewall is stopping, would there be any reason that that would be the case.

I manually check for updates so the program shouldnt need to access the net for any reason.

No, there is no reason why a firewall would stop you from launching items. An AV suite 'sand boxing' the application might, on the other hand. Either that or you have some kind of permissions problem.

It will need to anyway, unless you prefer losing functionality: it needs to access the net to display current weather conditions, synch the clock/time, check pending emails if you are using the Email Checker module, etc...

Not to mention that the executable doing the actual check for updates is a separate application: WsUpdate.exe.

Seriously, no disrespect, but I don't understand all this 'internet' paranoia. You either trust the company or not. If you don't, then don't run their applications.

Once something is installed and running on your system, it's already too late. It's like letting a babysitter or a cleaning lady alone in your house - you either trust them enough for that or you should get someone else you *do* trust to do that job.

Legit companies don't care about personal data at all (i.e.; they are not out trying to get *you* - no time, no interest, and that would destroy their reputation forever - and they know it!). At most they want general statistics that will help them improve their software or solve outstanding bugs. This is something that users obviously also benefit from.
