Hi.

Something is causing the recent Nexus Winstep Dock upgrade to fail in my note pc, I cannot find out the reason why. It happens every day since a month or so.

Behavior:

After Startup, popup about update to Winstep Nexus Dock.
I accept update.
It seems to be downloading/installing.
But suddenly interrupts with error message:
"Download failed: File size mismatch, file may be corrupt"

I have no other firewall than the windows firewall.
Yesterday I made a new "permission" for Nexus in Windows Firewall.
But today the behavior was the same.

I have no other antivirus than Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Nexus version 11.02.0939

I am happy with this old version, since it works like a charm for me, but maybe we should find out what is the matter with this issue.

Kind regards

jero

Thanks for the info and the screenshots.

Unfortunately I have no idea why a very small minority of users get these type of errors. That error in particular will happen if there is a socket error or the actual number of bytes downloaded do not match the expected amount.

Solving this, however, is a very simple process:

1. Exit all running Winstep applications.

2. Download the full version from the Winstep web site and install it *on top* (i.e.; do not uninstall anything first) of your current installation.

In the end, the Update Manager is just a convenient process of notifying the user of new updates and delivering them to him - this doesn't stop you from updating manually.

Thank you very much for the fast reply.

Well, I seem to be part of an even smaller "minority" of users, who, after executing the solution procedure as told...

(1. Exit all running Winstep applications; 2. Download the full version from the Winstep web site and install it *on top* (i.e.; do not uninstall anything first) of your current installation.)

...now get the following error message:
"DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied.)

I chose to cancel the installation.

As mentioned before, this issue aroused when trying to update from Nexus version eleven. zero TWO. (11.02.0939)

I just highlight the version number again because I remember that at one point, before posting in this forum, I intended to perform the update by downloading the new version from http://www.winstep.net/nexus-exe.zip, but I finally restrained to execute the update because of following warning written in the "readme" file:

"IMPORTANT: This update should ONLY be installed
on top of an existing
Nexus 11.5 or above installation."

Of course, this may be not related at all with my issue... I mentioned it just "in case"...

Looks like a system-specific permissions problem.

Please read THIS thread, from a user experiencing the same problem as you. Perhaps the advice given there will help you as well.
