Jorge,

I've noticed that the "Launch Item" sound has disappeared since I updated this morning. It worked yesterday, but now it is gone. I'm using "Dragon" as a theme and "Winstep samples" for the sounds.

Thanks,
Grouch

Jorge,

This morning I re-installed Nexus using the download from Cnet. The "Launch Item" now has the sound.

Thanks,
Grouch

I spoke too soon. It's broken again. Sorry.
It's only the one sound that gets lost. Did you do something to the trigger for the event?

Thanks,
Grouch

It was working just a minute ago now it's broken again?

Are you running Nexus or Winstep Xtreme?

Open Nexus Preferences, go to the Sounds tab. In the 'Events:' list click on the 'Launch Item' event. Is there a .wav file associated to it? If not, there's your problem. If so, click the 'Test Sound' button. Does it play?

Also, on that same tab in Preferences, make sure 'Disable all sounds and voices' is not checked.

Jorge,
Yes, been there, done that. Sound works and is correct. What's even spookier is the fact that the sound works when I click some icons, but doesn't work on other ones.

Thanks,
Grouch

Is that consistent (i.e.; always works on the same icons and vice-versa)? Which ones doesn't it work on, then?

Jorge,

Yes it is inconsistent. It may or may not work while clicking the same icon. That's why I thought that maybe you changed the event detection.

Thanks,
Grouch

Nah. Launching an item always calls the sound play routine. Could be something with your sound card, though.

Jorge,

Sorry, again, but all other events work consistently. I've tried "Drop item into Recycle bin", "Hide/collapse", "Show/Expand" and they all work every time.

"Launch item" is the only one that is inconsistent.

I don't know what else I can do. It can't be the sound card.

I've even tried different themes with different sound profiles and I get the same results.

Thanks,
Grouch

Are you, by any chance, on a laptop with a Realtek sound card?

@skagon,

Laptop, No. Desktop, Yes with Realtek. But that doesn't explain why it's been working for the last 2+ years, and now it doesn't. Eh?

Thanks,
Grouch

Jorge,

I noticed the following in release notes:

Quote:
* Added customizable 'Launch' and 'Attention' effects to the dock.

Could something in the new "Launch" effect code have caused the problem? Since that is where I am having the problem, it seems like the place to look.

Thanks,
Grouch
