I recently found out about the Nexus dock, and right now I'm setting up my self. Inside of the Desktop tab, I would like to remove a few of the icons. I.E. Network, Control Panel, Recycle Bin, etc. I do not need them there because I have them in a dock, but the ones that have a Delete button in the right click menu doesn't work and some others just cannot be moved at all. All I need is for the folders on my desktop to show up in that shelf, and nothing else. Is there any way of doing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Desktop tab in the Shelf, unlike the 'Main' tab which is a 'regular' tab type, is a *real* view port into the Windows Desktop.

As such, what appears there is also what appears in the real Desktop. Drag a file and drop it into the Desktop tab in the Shelf and the actual file gets moved or copied onto your Windows Desktop. Change something in the Windows Desktop and the Desktop tab in the Shelf automatically changes to reflect that.

You can't just delete the 'My Computer' or 'Recycler' icon from the Windows Desktop - therefore you can't do that from the Desktop tab in the Shelf either.

As an alternative, you can create a new tab on the Shelf of 'Regular' type and then drag the icons that interest you from the Windows Desktop and drop them into your new tab. You can then also remove the real Desktop tab from the Shelf by clicking on the Desktop tab header and selecting 'Delete this tab'.

Of course, the drawback of this is that your new tab, being a 'regular' tab, will now not change automatically when you add or remove items from the real Windows Desktop.

Thank you for the timely response. Since I'm able to edit what icons show on my desktop in Windows 7 via the Personalize tab. I.E. Recycle Bin, Libraries, Network, Control Panel, My Computer, etc. I guess I just wasn't expecting them to show up under the "real" desktop shelf tab as well instead of only the folders that are actually there.

If I may add a brief sentence here, after Jorge has spoken...

The shelf "Desktop" tab is a mirror of the actual desktop. Therefore, you can't remove icons from there without removing them from the *real* desktop, anymore than you can look in the mirror in your bathroom and remove your nose from the reflection, whilst leaving it intact on your face.

Here is my real and functional desktop that I use everyday, and that's what I was expecting to see in the shelf. Not a bunch of icons that are not on my desktop. I'm not trying to come across as an a**hole, so please don't take me that way.. I just simply wish I could remove icons from the shelf that are not really on my desktop.

If you keep your Desktop *that* clean (in fact I only see two folders in it), then you would be better off creating a new 'regular' tab and drag & drop those two folders into it.

Perhaps even better, you can actually create two new 'folder' type tabs and associated those two tabs to each of the folders you have in your desktop.

You see, the same way the Desktop Shelf tab is able to mirror the Windows Desktop, you can also create new tabs in the Shelf that mirror the contents of physical folders in your hard drive. This way you can access the contents of those two folders directly through the Shelf, instead of having to open the Desktop tab then clicking one of the two folders in it.

As an example, here is how you create a new folder type tab on the Shelf:

1. Right click one of the tab headers (where the text with the name of the tab is) and select 'Add New Tab' (or 'Insert New Tab') from the context menu that pops up.

2. In the dialog that pops up, change 'Regular tab' to 'Show Folder tab'.

3. Type in the name you want to give your new tab under 'Tab Name:'

4. Under 'Folder path' type in the pathname to the folder you want that tab to show the contents of, or use the Browse button to browse to select it.

5. Press Ok.

Thank you for the insight on the different types of tabs (Something I never really played around with much), and was able to get exactly what I was looking for. The real-time dynamic of the Desktop tab, but w/o the stuff that isn't actually showing on my desktop. I was able to find the folder for my functional desktop instead of the real desktop used by the Desktop tab. I pointed my new Show Folder Desktop tab to C:\Users\Aaron\Desktop, and it worked perfectly.

Thank you for the fast responses on my inquiries, and it was able to help me get what I was looking for in a much more timely manner than other software companies have *coughStarDockcough*.

That works too, and I'm kicking myself for not remembering to suggest that, eheh

P.S. You should really do something about that cough.
