Hei,
Happy New Year!

Now, I have some quetions about using Nexus Winstep Xtreme 11.10. There are:

1. I use Aston 1.9.6 as Windows shell. After Nexus insllation and started Workshelf I see my keyboard switcher Punto Switcher switch keyboard without changing icons in Sytem tray. When I exit from Nexus - Switcher running OK. What's wrong?

2. When I start NextSTART I see no any System tray icons - empty dash only. Why?

Thanx.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English ;)

Happy New Year! :D

Winstep was primarily designed to run on top of Explorer, and if you are running Aston as the shell then you'll probably run into small incompatibilities such as the ones you mention.

For instance, in normal Windows the system tray is provided and maintained by Explorer. System tray icons in NextSTART (and the dock, etc...) are retrieved by searching for an Explorer window with a special class name (only used by the system tray) and then enumerating all the icons in it.

If the Aston developers did not bother using the same window class name for their system tray as Explorer does (or if they have a different structure), then the system tray cannot be found and you won't see any tray icons in NextSTART.

I try Aston for the only one thing: on desktop objects I can use three different icons on mouse evenrs -- normal state/over/click.

Can Winstep do something like on desktop?

You mean on the Desktop icons? Winstep does not interfere with that, other than giving you the possibility to hide them and using docks/Shelf/menus instead.

I try to understand you, butdesktop icons in Aston give me some animation when I put cursor over or click. Or we talking in different languages?

In any case, thanks for your attention.

Since you asked, it seems to me that we're two people trying to use English - which is not the native language of either of us - to understand each other. Sometimes things are lost in the translation.

Anyway, please bear with me, I don't use Aston so I can't be expected to understand exactly what you are trying to say: if you are talking about the icons on the Aston *desktop* being animated, no, Winstep Xtreme does not do that.

Winstep Xtreme only animates it's own icons, not the icons on the Windows desktop.

You're right, English is not my native language, but I want to ask the following:

Winstep cant't animte icons like Aston, I don't care. In this case how to use Winstep animaed icons on Desktop? I suppose only widgets are supported...

P.S. Aston Object properties:

You can't, at least not as desktop icons. Only icons in docks and the Shelf (tabbed dock) can be animated.

OK, I understand.
At last: any keyboard switchers (Key Switcher, Punto Switcher etc) on my system working under Winstep when started after Workshelf or NextStart only...

But this is another story. Thanx for all again. Bye. :)

Of course, You could always create a dock with a single animated icon, and make the dock transparent. (as long as you have the paid version)

I do that for the Weather module so I can size it how I want and set the transparency.

I try to do transparent background for Dock with a single icon but I can't?
How to do that?

    Open Dock Properties
    Click on the Appearance tab
    Click the Transparency button
Move the left slider all the way to the right.
