I got nextstart, liked it, installed the trial of Xtreme. In all my playing around with settings, I lost my win taskbar and I have spent hours going over preferences etc and cannot get it back.
Also I would prefer the win 7 start menu.. anyway to have that AND the nexus taskbar?
I read this but could not find those settings:
http://www.winstep.net/xtremefaq.asp#a3
) How do I prevent NextSTART from replacing my Windows taskbar?
A) Open the Taskbar tab in NextSTART Preferences and uncheck the 'Allow NextSTART to replace the Windows taskbar' setting.NOTHING SAYING THAT WAS LISTED

Q) How do I make the Start Button in the NextSTART taskbar display the Windows Start Menu instead of the main NextSTART menu?
A) Right click on the Start Button and select 'Associate to Windows Start Menu'. Do the same to change back.NOTHING LIKE THAT WAS LISTED

Hi Miriam!

Winstep Xtreme is essentially a suite of two independent/individual applications: NextSTART and WorkShelf/Nexus. NextSTART takes care of menus, hotspots and the replacement taskbar, WorkShelf takes care of docks, the Shelf and desktop modules.

If you can't see the 'Allow NextSTART to replace the Windows taskbar' setting in the Taskbar tab of NextSTART Preferences, perhaps you are looking in the 'Tasks' tab of WorkShelf preferences instead? Each application has it's own Preferences screen.

If that is not the case, can you please post a screenshot of NextSTART Preferences open in the Taskbar tab? Also, what version of Winstep Xtreme are you running?

R clicking the nextSTART button brings up that menu
clicking the properties button only brings up a hotspot editor

Thanks for the screenshot, that helped.

Ok, try the following:

Left click the NextSTART button. In the NextSTART menu that pops up, open the Settings sub-menu, the select 'Preferences' from that sub-menu. This will open NextSTART Preferences (alternatively you can also right click on the NextSTART icon in the system tray and select Preferences or even press CTRL+F12).

Once in NextSTART Preferences, go to the 'Taskbar' tab of NextSTART Preferences. At the bottom of this tab there is an option that says 'Hide the NextSTART taskbar and detach the tasklist and system tray'. My guess is that you have enabled that setting, so clear it and press OK in Preferences.

This will bring the NextSTART taskbar back and put the Start Button (NextSTART menu button), task buttons and system tray inside of it.

If you now right click the Start Button in the NextSTART taskbar, you will see the 'Associate to Windows Start Menu' option in the context menu that pops up. Select that option and clicking on the Start Button will now open the Windows Start Menu instead of the NextSTART menu.
