Jorge,

Have you made a change in the "EMail Checker" module? When I hover over the icon, for a few seconds, I get the following:

Attachment:
Capture.JPG
Capture.JPG [ 20.33 KiB | Viewed 23769 times ]

The results shown in the balloon are not the same as what was displayed in the previous release (probably because it failed). I connect to my email thru an IMAP connection. If I click on the icon, it does launch my email client (T'Bird) without a hitch. If I click on retry twice, it will continue to let Nexus run.

Either the ability to perform the check has failed, or the ability to display the results has failed.

Got a clue?

Thanks,
Grouch

Crap. Yes, I did change some stuff yesterday regarding the big balloon tooltip.

How many accounts do you have defined in the Email checker (enabled *and* inactive)?

Is it set to check automatically?

If you right click on the Email Checker module, select 'Check Mail', wait until it stops blinking, and then hover the mouse over the icon, does it still give out that error?

And if so, what if you re-start Nexus and immediately hover over the Email Checker icon before it has had a chance to connect?

Ah, one last question, are you using SSL for the IMAP account? My guess is that you are not, right?

For information, here is what should happen:

When you first run Nexus, if you check the Info tooltip of the Mail Checker module in the dock, it should tell you

Email Accounts last checked:
Not checked in this session yet

Once it connects and retrieves the info, what appears in the tooltip depends on how many active accounts you are checking. Assuming it's only one, if there are no errors you get:

Email Accounts last checked:
xx:xx:xx, Weekday, Month dd, year
x Messages, y KB

If the server reports an error, you will get

Email Accounts last checked:
xx:xx:xx, Weekday, Month dd, year
<Server error message here, e.g. AUTH Failed, Invalid username/password>

If the Email module is unable to connect for a reason, you will get:

Email Accounts last checked:
Connection timed out

If you have more than one account the Email Checker is checking on, then you should see something like this:

Email Accounts last checked:
xx:xx:xx, Weekday, Month dd, year
<x total> Messages, <y total> KB
<Account 1 Name>:
x Messages, y KB (or the error reported by the server, if any)
<Account 2 Name>:
x Messages, y KB (or the error reported by the server, if any)

Jorge,

Wow! You're making me do my homework.

OK, here goes:

I have two accounts

Yes, it set to check every five minutes

If I "Check Mail", It responds that I have mail (so I guess the ability to check is OK). When I hover waiting for the balloon, it fails again.

If I restart and hover quickly before a connection it is alright.

No, I am not using SSL Encryption.

Whew, I'm exhausted.

Thanks,
Grouch

I think I figured it out: one of your accounts is inactive *or* not returning any results.

Jorge,

I just did a test by sending a test-mailing to both accounts. "Check Mail" said I had two messages, but only listed the first account as recipient. It should have said that I had '1 new message', one for each of the accounts.

Hope that helps,
Grouch

Ok, hold on, already fixed the Access Violation issue, looking up the other one - my guess before checking it out is that it has something to do with the 'missing' account being an IMAP account.

One of the things you'll probably like, if you haven't noticed it yet, is that after checking for messages the Email Checker *label* will change from 'Email Checker' to 'xx messages, xx KB', so no need to actually go for the full info tooltip unless you want to see the details for each of the accounts.

Jorge,

I went on to test with single accounts. As long as there is only one account there is no problem.

Yes, I would like to see the account info for each of the accounts as shown in your sample below:

------------------------------------------------------------------
Email Accounts last checked:
xx:xx:xx, Weekday, Month dd, year
<x total> Messages, <y total> KB
<Account 1 Name>:
x Messages, y KB (or the error reported by the server, if any)
<Account 2 Name>:
x Messages, y KB (or the error reported by the server, if any)
------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks,
Grouch

Yeah. And it also looks like the missing information has to do with the Access Violation.

Compiling a new version now.

Ok, download again from the same place, please. This is build 988, even though the history file says build 987. Sigh.

Build 988 means the free version of Nexus has already been compiled 988 times, FYI. :P

Open the Email Checker settings panel, what does 'Response' say for *each* of your two accounts?

Now, force a manual check by right clicking the Email module and selecting 'Check Email'. Does the same thing happen?

Well, that can happen if the server takes more than 60 seconds to respond.

I've been having trouble with the Winstep IMAP mail server lately and the same thing is happening to me when checking that account. However, I've just tried it with the new server that is going to replace it tomorrow (also IMAP) and I had no trouble with that one.
