Regarding Winstep Nexus 12.2 installed on pain in the ass Windows 7 64bit:

A while ago I accidentally hit the "close nexus" button insteads of "close Windows".
Then I closed Windows "the normal" way without restarting Nexus first.

Since then when I restart my pc Nexus doesn't automatically start up when Windows boots up.
When I manually run Nexus the screen gets dark and the default Windows message pops up like the one shown when installing new software - I click yes to continue.
After Nexus is set a new message shows up: "It turns out this application has started with higher priveleges, you won't be able to drag icons to Nexus, do you want to exit Nexus? - I click no to continue.
From there Nexus runs fine but not automatically starting and two messages is annoying.

I tried exiting Nexus manually and restarting it, hoping corrupt registry issues would be corrected. Also checked in the Nexus config if it is set to "start up when pc boots up" and it is set.
I did not try reinstalling; kind of scary I loose all my docks etc. and I'm not sure saving settings now will cause the same behavior when I reinstall Nexus and load my settings.

Anyone any suggestion how to go back to normal?

The first thing to try is a System Restore. If for some reason you can't restore it to a point very close to a time before you had the issue, double-check your Nexus settings to make sure that the Run at Windows Startup box is checked.

You should also check the Windows Startup menu. Type msconfig into the Start Menu search box and then Enter. Click on the Startup tab and check the list to make sure that all Winstep entries are checked.

If none of that works, then the only other option that I know of is to try what I posted here...viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4785

System Restore did the trick! Not sure what won't work now (restore point 9th of July) but that would be at most software I might have installed later, which I can redo if necessary.

A bit brute solution (it's like reorganising a whole library because a single book is on a wrong shelf) but I'm happy it worked out.

Great! I'm glad it worked out. Just hope you don't have to re-install a lot of programs.
